Hi there, I am in the market for a new water-resistant spring coat, in anticipation that we will have something approximating spring at some point in the next three months. I have never shopped at Everlane but happened upon the trench, which then led me to the anorak, below (finds).

What say you friends? They both come in navy and both have some measure of water resistance. The trench is more my style in a way, but the anorak may be more lifestyle appropriate (i.e. quite casual) - I'm wondering if the slightly longer length of the trench might end up looking frumpy when I have my wellies on. It would look fab with heels, but this is for true weather purposes as well as fashion, so rain boots it often shall be.

Has anyone had good luck with Everlane?

Any thoughts? Thank you! <3

I’ve never shopped at Everlane so no help there but would suggest you try them on andmpost some photos here. As far as Wellies looking “frumpy”...no way! To me they say “smart girl who knows what to wear to stay warm and dry and does not let fashion “rules “ boss her around”.

Hmm, my heart says I don't know!! Maybe I'm not sold on either ... it is more purchasing for necessity than love ... although I've always been keen on a nice trench ... but in my version I'm wearing it with heels on a Parisian sidewalk!

For true weather purposes, Anorak! I don't have experience with Everlane but hear good things about them.

Hmmm, just thinking the hood on the anorak is a huge plus too for practical purposes.

I used to dislike hoods but now I realize just how important they are and use them all the time. Also, for rainy weather, when I'm walking the dog, I'm always wearing a hooded raincoat (with the hood up) and rain boots or rain shoes.

Can’t comment on the brand but I have a navy hooded raincoat in this parka style and I m rarely out of it.It has been so useful.

I prefer the trench and think it will look just fine with rubber boots.

I really like hoods because you can’t lose them. I vote anorak. But, you need to try them on.

I have both a trench and an anorak (not these versions) and I reach for the anorak much more in rainy weather because it's so much more practical - has a hood, works with wellies and allows for layers underneath that a trench belt doesn't.

Full disclosure, I have a couple of trenches as well. I do wear them with my rain boots when it's pouring rain.

I think anorak will pair better with the wellies. Trench is more dressy in my opinion but you need to try them both to be sure which one you like better.

Ah, thanks everyone! I think Smittie's lululemon coat option is the winner! It's more polished than the anorak, but less dressy than the trench. Plus, I can go to the mall and try it one before I buy.

Now, I will have to swallow my grudge against lululemon and their body-shaming ways, but I think I'm only punishing myself at this point lol.

For an everyday raincoat, I vote for the Lululemon as well. It's fully waterproof and seam sealed, so you'll be happier on the days when wellies are necessary.

If you want something dressier but not necessarily fully waterproof, shop for a trench separately; IMHO there are more distinctive options out there than Everlane's (and I have had good luck with Everlane, but I find their outerwear somewhat unimpressive -- and definitely not geared toward extreme weather). I could see you in a classic but fun-coloured trench -- deep berry, teal, etc.

I like the Lulu as well. If there is an Athleta at your mall, check out their offerings because they also have great rain wear options.

Egad, here's another cute one. Not navy, but not black, and I like the brightness of the clear light gray. Who knew there were so many cute and functional rain coats out there?

Helena, there is room for both a trench and an anorak. 100% different. NOT black.

Everlane is hit and miss. Personally I find the items very basic and somewhat masculine (or too athletic and casual) - and the colour palette is not my cuppa tea. But every once in a while there is KILLER piece for a client so they are always worth looking at.

@Helena - I like that light grey one too! It’s shorter though. I think I prefer the length of the Lulu one.

TG - I have a black anorak by EF and it is one of my most used spring and summer bad weather coats. I wear it over very dressy pieces but it's long w a high low hem. That being said, I have a trench w hood and zip out lining. They fulfill different functions. I do have straight gear rain coat as well. Wellies don't work for me as no support. I like the uggs duck boots both rain and winter version. That being said I admire wellies on others. That cool English I always wear the most amazing outfit vibe
