I think opaque white with black outfits for work is just too childlike. Those sheer tights in Angie's photo look great, and I can imagine a winter white look with white tights looking edgy.

However, in all honesty I feel would look 100% ridiculous in sheer white tights - I fear it would not look deliberate but more like the old days when hose only came in two colors - too light for me and too dark for me...

That's a good point Una. For me, when I have worn white tights it's only a tiny bit paler than my legs are otherwise (sometimes it looks like I'm wearing them when I have bare legs lol). Like Laura, sheer ones function almost as a nude to me.

"nude" hose or sheer taupes on me usually don't work.

Bwahahaha, Gigi! I have aching side stitches at the thought of me being a trendsetter!

I have to confess you have caught me out in a big fat lie- while rummaging through my drawers I found a pair of white stockings......!!!

Most of the looks I have seen with white tights scream 'Emotionally stunted at age six'. I'll play around and see if I can come up with anything worth presenting. In the meantime check out white tights on 'helpmystyle.ie'.

The only trend I can think of them working is Lolita dressing.

Mary, I totally remember wearing white and off white hose in the 80s. It was definitely a thing for a while.

I like the sheer version on the blogger but I think it would be difficult to carry off solid white opaque tights in a fashionable way right now.

Fuzzylogic, I too am a born follower! Ha ha. I found your website, and there were runway pics of the white tights!

This has been a very interesting discussion. I had been thinking mostly about opaque white tights when I posted; I hadn't thought much about sheer ones. But as a lot of people pointed out, the blogger featured really looked fab with the sheer white patterned hose. And it really works with a lighter-colored bottom and coordinating shoes. So it looks like opaque white tights are going to be tough unless you're a runway model, but sheer patterned tights will look fab with the right styling.

I had forgotten about the problems I used to have with nude hose, and the comments about finding the right shade spurred my memory. I haven't worn hose for years, but back when I did wear it I did have problems finding the right color. Everything was either too tan or too pink. My legs are white. :^) They look just like rabbit's. So sheer white hose are probably better for me than nude.

I did buy a pair of tights at F21 that were white and lacey. The lace was not just printed on the tights, but it was like the tights themselves were lace (kind of like crochet; the tights have lots of holes). These tights don't give as much of a child vibe as the opaque tights; they just kind of "soften" my leg color a bit. I'll have to experiment with them and see if I can make it work without looking like Pollyanna.
