Are these culottes?

Are these culottes? If not, are they trendy or conservative? How would they look with black Munro Robyn booties? Tragic or trendy? If not these pants, can you suggest other places to look that are not too spendy as I experiment with this silhouette?

BTW, I own the Munros but not the AT pants.

I like those - but I don't think they're culottes because it appears that they taper a bit at the bottom. From what I know about culottes they are wide all the way down - but then, I don't know all that much about culottes! LOL!

I think they are at the border of wide leg crop and culotte. They are really nice. I'm not sure I would wear them with a contrasting bootie - might be leg shortening.

I always thought culotte was wide enough to give the appearance of a skirt - some people did in fact call them split skirts in the 80s when they were popular. I loved them then.

I don't know either!! But either way I think the look can be current.

I think they could be worn with ankle boots but I think a lighter colour might be more flattering.... I imagine wearing culottes with long boots or lower vamped shoes - not that I have tried any on yet!!

I think they can be called culottes. From Angie's post:
Some styles are cut much slimmer and look more like wide cropped pants or long shorts.
In any case I like them and vote YAY to try experimenting! And I think they should work well with black Munro booties because they have heel and low cut on the ankle.

Thank you ladies! I think they might be too narrow to be called culottes but maybe it's a reined-in version of the silhouette that I could use to dip my toe in. Nicole, I always worry about leg shortening! I'm 5'4" with hefty legs and calves but I'm surprised at how flattering that little 'v' in the boot is.

If I try them, I'll post a K/R and we can decide

I think they have potential. They might not be full culottes, but they certainly fall into the general category. I agree with Sveta that they could work with the bootie if the length of them was flattering to the wearer. These booties are better with skirts than most due to the V in front. I wear my Munros with midi skirts and they work even on short -legged me. They might not be the most conventionally flattering shoes in the world but they are not hideous, IMO.

Agree with Sveta and Suz. It seems like quite a lot of wide, short trousers are being called culottes these days.

Suz, great to hear that you wear the Munros with midi skirts. I think midi skirts and these types of pants need similar types of footwear. I was actually thinking culottes (or wide cropped pants) would be useful in the classroom for getting down on the floor with the kids and not flashing them! BTW, the more I wear these Munros around the house, the more like slippers they feel (but slippers with support!).

Agree with the others. Not true culottes in my mind, more like wide legged crops, but I think these would be called culottes at the moment.

I have those booties in burgundy, and I like them with skirts a lot. I think they would wrk, especially based on Angie's recent write up, but you'd have to try them on to be sure.

Whether they're technically culottes or not, they seem to be culotte-esque and on trend. I would pair them with the booties. Personally I imagine I might try it with tights, though, to have less contrast. Maybe patterned tights.

Thistle, Debbie and Firecracker, thanks for your encouragement. I'm think of sporting these bare-legged. Not so figure flattering but maybe a little trendier? I might try them too with my knee high black boots for warmth later in the season.

I guess I just have to try them out!

Mine look very similar and the retailer calls them cullotes. So, yay :). I think it would look lovely with booties. I am going to try mine with my booties too!

I think these could be called culottes. They are cut slimmer through the leg, but for some body shapes, that's what looks best. I think they are probably on the conservative side for culottes, but for fashion in general, I would call them trendy (since culottes themselves are still a new thing).

I wouldn't wear them with the booties, though...I think it will shorten the leg line.

Please post a pic if you give them a try. This more refined version will likely be much easier to wear than the wider fuller version so I would be interested to see how they work.
