Yes!
More leg-lengthening looks via medium heels and shorter tops.
Cutting my spending by 1/4 and items by 1/2. (Fewer, better quality pieces )

Bookmarking to read all your posts later - but wanted to chime in that I'm with you, Mo - I want to repeat my favorite outfits. I need so much less than I have.

Hmmm... I think mine are:

-Buy only what I need. I need to remember that I don't need any more workout clothes, lounge clothes or casual clothes.
-Don't buy something because its a good deal. If I don't wear it, then it's not a good deal, not matter how cheap it is.
-Focus on the happiness factor of my outfits. If a piece doesn't make me at least a little happy, then it needs to go.
-Purge, purge, purge. If it hasn't been been worn in over a year (and it's not a special occasion item), then it needs to go.

Mine are...

1. Tailoring is your friend!!! Pull out the needle and the thread and the machine more often! -- I just put my Kate Spade dress under the needle and thread to nip in the waist a bit, and it looks 100% better!!!!

2. Repeating Outfits is Okay! I don't have to reinvent the wheel if I don't want to!

3. Separates are Not Scary - even though dresses are easier, the mix and match potential of separates is so much greater!

4. Get Repairs Done!!! - I have dropped off two dresses for new zippers and I need to find someone to do the zippers on my boots, still.

5. Be Practical - Sometimes, backpacks are ugly, but you just have to wear one!

Think about what I really want and avoid the rest!

Here are mine , mantra style -

Color
It is ok to try
It is supposed to be fun
Trying items on is best
Wear the good stuff
Wear what you love

To always put away my clothes as soon as I take them off. No more floordrobe!

Floordrobe! Love that, Anne. My college senior is home for the holiday. Her room looks like her her suitcase exploded all over the floor. No idea how she always manages to look so cute and put together. I'm a wee bit OCD about my closet...guess she missed that gene, for better or worse!

I'm in the preliminaries of goal setting...glad to get some ideas here as I work to refine my plans for 2014...

Early thoughts are to:

1.) Purge more. I've eliminated many bags, but I'm still pulling from the front of my closet and the same top layers in the drawer, so more (much) can go.

2.) Set a budget. I think this will be an atypically expensive year for clothing since so many items need replacing. Really no clue what is reasonable.

2.) Identify what I want my core wardrobe to be (prioritizing work wardrobe 1st), what items are needed and start shopping for the best I can afford.

3.) Visit more retailers in person and try on the styles I've shunned without actually seeing on me, take pics.

4.) Well, move this to the top of the list...buy a full length mirror ; Might help things significantly.

5.) Dust off the sewing machine AND find a good tailor. It's a must. I know I'm hard to fit, especially in dresses and pants, which is why mine are so worn. I leave so many things in the store for want of a little tweaking due to inconvenience, but nothing to wear is also a major inconvenience! Need to practice and improve my skills so I can handle the simple stuff.

Anne, I love the no more floordrobe. Hopelessly in need of that one!

Tied to that would be get things to a tailor ASAP (rather than in a pile)

A long deferred cull is also in order!

Overcome my fears about selling stuff I don't wear on Ebay.

Fantastic post, Mo. I also almost never wear the same exact outfit twice, and why not? I don't know, except I do like to "be creative." Since I've been taking an outfit pic every day since Sept., I've come to realize that there are quite a lot of outfits that I'm not all that happy with. Most, if not all, of those consist of clothing that is a few years old, still in great shape, but I feel like I'm not ready to pass along - so I need to wear it. I need to stop trying to make those items of clothing work, cut my losses and purge away. After all, I could probably cut my closet by half and not be forced to go around naked.

I already posted mine on a separate thread and got some great feedback as how to accomplish some of my goals, but will re-post here! It is a long list, but working my way to a more functional wardrobe is something several people in my life have agreed is a big must for 2014.

1) Purge my closet-- working FT, I have no excuse to hoard things that don't work "just in case". It is time.
2)
Purchase a couple warm underlayers (merino baselayer type) and new
toppers so I don't have to wear fleece to work all winter to stay warm
in our frigid building (I have 4 more months of really cold temps)
3) Ditto with a pair of fashion boots -- got a pair for Christmas-- I love them! goal 3 accomplished on 12/29
4) Dive back into the world of makeup after a multi-year hiatus
5) Purchase a few new summer pieces (new knit skirt, new dress, shorts, BF jeans, sandals) plus work tops/toppers
7) Participate in NAS and shop Fall/Winter early in the season
8) Post outfit photos -- I have the camera, shutter release and tripod to make it easy!
9) Replace a few loungewear pieces
10) start analyzing how things work together as a "style", investigate accesories
11) Buy an item or two that makes me feel sexy, 1 more gear piece

I resolve to make my closet look like an ad for California Closets.

I resolve to focus on MOTG uniform outfits, perhaps worn with my precious jewels and daily perfume to make myself feel special in casual clothes.

I will find a beautiful lounge outfit for at home days when I am doing laundry, cooking, organizing.

I resolve to create a satisfying capsule of neutrals mixed with pastels.

I resolve to dump heels over 2.75 inches.

I resolve to build my hubby a wardrobe as good as my own.

I resolve to be a FAB 50 year old!

I do not post much and mostly only read, but this is a good thread that I would like to participate.

1. Stick to my budge, which I was able to do in 2013.
2. Buy less. I only buy high quality items anyways, but I buy too much, especially all the Eileen Fisher's new with tag on eBay. I need to pare that done, by at least 50%. My whole wardrobe is mostly Eileen Fisher, I am very happy with most of the items but there has to be a limit, I need to tell myself that daily.
3. I have more than 10 handbags already, no need to buy more, but maybe one really good handbag from NAS in 2014. I only like shoulder bags, I also do not like bags that are heavy. I need to stick to these criteria and do not buy just because something is on sale, I should unsubscribe from Kate Spade since they send sale e-mails frequently.
4. Stop buying shoes, too many pairs already. I have got rid of all the high heels, most my shoes are comfortable. One, however, really does not need more than 60 pairs of shoes.
5. Wear what have not been worn. Sell or donate what will not be worn.

1. Stick to a one in, one out protocol.
2. Track my spending and adhere to a monthly budget.
3. Further develop my specialty capsules.
4. Focus my acquisitions on the high wear items.
5. Shift toward a more rock and roll, Americana vibe and away from modern classic.

So glad you started this thread! I enjoy reading about everyone's goals.

In 2014, I resolve to…

-practice Angie’s Triple P Purchasing Principle (Be patient, Be picky, and Be practical).

-commit to a skin care routine that includes drinking the right amount of water each day.

-gain 10-12 pounds to return to what I consider my best weight. This would be the weight at which I feel most comfortable with the fit of my clothes. And then I'll have to work to maintain that weight.

-get fitted for a bra and buy some new ones. I’ve been putting this off since having baby #3.

  1. Fewer purchases. (Trying out the 2 purchases per month idea for the first quarter.)

  2. Keep moving towards making my wardrobe completely monochromatic.
  3. More texture.
  4. More WIWs. (I'd like to do at least one a week.)

My resolutions:

  • To be impeccably groomed - hair cut and color, nails, mascara and lip gloss - even on the days that I work from home and don't go anywhere.
  • To keep my wardrobe in good condition (cleaning and storing leather and fur properly, polishing shoes, mending small tears and replacing buttons, etc.) I'm mostly good about this, until I get somewhere and realize the taps are worn down on a pair of heels, or the shoes could use a little polish.
  • To get the pieces I need altered over to the seamstress, already
  • To stay true to my personal style, as outlined on my Pinterest boards.
  • And to try and remember to do more WIW's. I tend to postpone taking pics, because my hair looks all crazy, or put on more makeup, then I get busy and forget. Prime example: today. I was changing into workout clothes when I remembered that I wanted to take more WIW photos...

Happy New Year!

Mine is to stick to a budget! And maintain my smaller wardrobe size.

Get my act together in terms of wardrobe size. We just bought *yey* my first house ever and I want it to be pristine and clutter free, that includes bringing in only what I love. I will not move until May, so I have a few months.

You got it, Zap?? Congrats!!!

Buy more boots! Is that a resolution? Well anyway, this is a big wardrobe hole for me.

Post more WIWs especially when getting ready for a special event. I find I wait until the last day to get special event outfits together and then can't find anything that feels fab.

You all reminded me of another: get my sewing machine tuned up and start sewing again! I'm working across the street from a sewing machine repair shop, so I just need to remember to bring it.

Mine is to alter something as soon as it needs it instead of leaving it on the dress rail for weeks in my workroom and then finding it's not there for me to wear when I really need it. Another is to create a spot for taking WIW's with good lighting so I can do some pics quickly.

I overspent my fall budget by a fair amount and so I need to do a serious SYC for the next two months. The advantage of overspending (if there can be one!) is that I feel my wardrobe is functioning very well and I don't actually need anything. And thus, my goals:

- to spend no money on clothes, makeup or accessories until the end of February 2014. I'd like to extend this to the end of March or April, but I've been running a lot and can see changes in my body, so I'm not sure if I will need to update wardrobe items due to size changes, etc. So I figure the end of February is the best timeline for now and then I can reassess.

- Do my nails twice a month. I've been wanting to add more polish to my overall look and I really find myself noticing when someone has an outfit I admire AND they have their nails done. It's a nice finishing touch and I think it's a tweak to my style that I can implement easily.

- Return to tracking my wardrobe. I took about 6 months off from doing this and, while I was originally doing it to refine my style, I'd like to return to it to see how I'm using items in my wardrobe. The only change is that I'm going to keep this tracking sheet in my Google drive, so I can update it from anywhere through my phone, ipad, work computer or home laptop.

Great thread, Mo! Thanks!

Create and stick to a budget for clothes. Go through DH's closet challenge for all 4 seasons then purge the boutique. I don't mind if I keep a few items on hold but right now I have more items on hold than I am wearing regularly and that is just wasted money. And I like fashion too much to not shop for X years while I wait for items to wear out so I can shop the boutique.

Fun post Mo!

1. Buy less but esp. less online (returns have started getting to me).

2. Focus on a neutral and lighter color palette for spring/summer (heather oatmeal knit moto and last year's flax linen blazer and the new cream BR jeans are my starting point pieces for this) I also realized that I don't have as many lighter toned tops as I think I should have for such a long spring/summer season.

3. Shoes - fit, feel and fashion forward are the mantra for those.

4. Wear more of the things I already own and wear them more often (repeats)

5. Slightly reduce my wardrobe size.

(Rae, not that one. We had to back out of the deal, but we found an even better property, 3,000 sq ft townhouse, still under construction. We are very excited about it, thank you!)
Sorry for the threadjack.

Mine are:
1. I will buy only comfortable clothes that are easy to care for.
2. I will buy only practical clothes that are comfortable and easy to care for.
3. I will not compromise. Things must fit now. Be comfortable now. And not make me worry if my DD falls asleep on my shoulder and drools a little.
4. I will work more on my casual wardrobe, making sure it meets my style goals for the weekend. After all, it is almost 30% of the week, and if you add casual Friday in there, it is 43% of the week.

Add whimsy
Repeat outfits
Stick to a budget!
Space in my closet
Cross things off my list
Wear necklaces more (simply)
Don't buy mistakes; returns are okay
Don't buy too-bright autumn colors (or too dull)
Keep tailoring everything that needs it, promptly
Wear everything in my summer wardrobe or get rid of it
