I love clearlyclaire's reference to diluting your style- I commented on it in my safety net post. Since I'm running out of places to tattoo my new wardrobe slogans, I'll have to post it on a 3 x 5 card. But it seems very apt.

Thanks, lovely and wise ladies! I am pretty set on returning the BB... CPW on he Burberry, having it be a signature item instead of one of many, and the fact that they aren't different enough were very persuasive points. Plus I do have my black wool Karen Millen for true winter temps.

Dana, the black trench was listed by style name, and I had seen and fondled that style in person. I was very familiar with how it and the label should look, what the dimensions should be, and what the fabric should be.

The olive one is not from ebay. That one was a Saks sale item, hence the necessary windfall.

After side by side pictures there is no doubt in my mind - return BB. I think it will get lonely in your closet because you will wear the awesome Burberry trench ALL-THE-TIME!
Stripe-y bag is a good exchange for BB trench!

Well I'm really glad the windfall came through. That must be nice to cross off your list. Hopefully this will allow you to symbolically move on (as much as possible).

Late to the party, but I am glad you are keeping the Burberrys and returning the BB for that oh so fab Brahmin bag!

Rae- away for the day and just saw that Burberry trench on you. Stratospheric find with amazing fit and the detailing on the back is stunning.
I have never seen that one before and it was meant for you.

I think you made the right choice in returning the BB and getting that wonderful striped bag. For me, once I have THE pair of black slouchy pants, the "back up" pair lays idle, because I always reach for the most flattering ones. Thinking about it (thanks to your post), I am realizing that this type of situation may be my biggest closest space hog, as well as potential budget usurper. If one is great, could 2 be better? If one is ultra special, pricey, hard to find, etc., then should I have another like it, but not so precious to wear? For me the answer is, not very often.

I have some duplicates of wardrobe basics (wash day logistics) and some duplicates of items that are perishable work horses and worthwhile to have at a great price/fit (white jeans), and maybe some mega comfortable walking shoes that are going to be worn into the ground (super fussy feet here). Otherwise, it is more fun to wear what you love and not feel badly about orphans.

Enjoy the trench and bag. So glad you are celebrating.

I am not saying anything new but that Burberry was made for you and return the BB. I say if you have perfection why keep second best?

Wow - that Burberry totally is THE one! I'm glad you're not diluting your style

If you already had a BBesque trench and decided not to purge, that ouwld be one thing. But to spend fresh $$ on it is not necessary (or wise!).

Yes, I'd love to see that striped purse with the Burberry!!!!!!!!

Well, the bag has been officially ordered! After discount and Nordie Notes, it was almost an even trade for the BB, which I will dutifully take back on Tuesday. :T

Dear BB,

It's not you. It's me. You're an amazing coat, but I don't have room in my life for you right now. You look super fab on Claire and Sara, and I just know you'll make another woman feel completely chic and be her one and only go-to trench. Maybe one of these days I will see you again - at another sale, or on Ebay - if things are different. If my closet or budget grows, or if I suddenly up and move to Seattle. Until then, never doubt that you are of superb quality, color, and fit.

I will always love you!

Oh Whoa, good for you Rae! Congratulations! So happy you were able to do this for yourself.

Yay Rae. I think you made a good decision.
