Ann Taylor cashmere?

Can anyone here speak to the quality and softness of the AT Luxe collection cashmere sweaters? I may order one - good price (which makes me suspicious ......

I tried on a CM cashmere sweater today and could not get it off fast enough. So itchy and such a dry hand. Yuck. The Bay's Lord & Taylor cashmeres are great, and I usually buy a few every year . Looking for something new and different.

Thoughts and opinions in AT sweaters most welcome.

I have a couple from previous years and I'd say the quality is medium-to-good. Not the best but far from the worst. The older ones started pilling a little after 4-5 washes, but nothing a comb couldn't fix. They are pretty soft.

I have one Ann Taylor cashmere sweater and it is very soft and thick. I wear it a lot. It went with me to Montreal for 5 weeks and to Florida for 10 weeks. I wore it at least 3 times a week. It does have some piling but I use a comb.
That is disappointing about the CM sweater. I have never bought a L & T cashmere sweater. Maybe I will this year.

I cannot speak directly to Ann Taylor cashmere, but I have found I shop there less and less each year. The quality that I remember from past years is gone. I can't remember the last time I made a purchase in their store. Today I don't even bother entering their stores .... even to shop the sales. Not worth my time or effort.

However, should you decide on making this purchase, I wish you good luck with it. I hope it lives up to your expectations.

I'm sticking up for AT - they were GREAT last year, and greatly improved their quality. The Loft too. Every retailer should get a chance to redeem itself at the start of a new season.

As for cashmere Lisa, it is ALWAYS a gamble despite the retailer and price point unfortunately. I echo Tanya.

I got a couple of AT cashmere sweaters on clearance in early 2015, and it took a year and very light wear and washing for one of them to develop small holes. Perhaps this was because it had made it to clearance and had been handled a lot? It was a thinner cashmere, and maybe a thicker variety wouldn't have this problem.

I can't speak for AT cashmere but I know Lands End LL Bean and similar places offer pretty great return policies. I have 3 from Everlane that I really love but I don't wear them often enough to really judge quality in a fair way. I've only washed them a handful of times so far.

I have AT cashmere from a few years back.

It is soft, but it's not the kind that holds up super well. Yes, it pills. Yes, it thins with time and doesn't feel as lofty.

On the other hand, it's not much worse quality than a sweater from Nordie's I bought for more than twice the price.

I have a Enge Costa cashmere sweater I bought from Net-A-Porter that the original price was $250 but got it from their sale for $45, and it is soft but it does pile. I just think it is the nature of the beast no matter how much you pay for it. Love the feel of good cashmere.

oh yeah - I'm not talking about pilling ...that has nothing to do with the quality of the yarn. I am talking purely about softness.

I give up. Didn't order. Making myself sit on my hands until I know what it is I really want.

I've bought a few over the last ten years from Scotweb.com and Woolovers.com that are excellant to good value.

No pilling at all from the two polonecks from Scotweb, but the Woolovers sweaters do a bit.

I have to agree with Sterling as a loyal AT shopper. Their quality on sweaters and suits has gone down quite a bit. They seem to be doing pants quite well.

Cashmeres, even within brands, seem to vary in softness and durability. Here's a tip I learned somewhere years ago and have found to be generally true: Cashmeres in lighter colors are softer, because they are made from the softer, whiter belly fleece; the darker, coarser back fleece is used for black and other dark colors.

I read the same thing about cashmere and colour, but that it had to do with the dye. Tulle's theory sounds plausible, though.

J. Crew cashmere from around 5+ years ago was pretty soft, but seemed scratchy when I checked last year.

I've found Eileen Fisher cashmere to be consistently soft.

If you end up going with AT, let us know.

Just looked at the AT sweaters, and found that the lower-priced ones were mostly wool with a small percentage of cashmere--and so potentially scratchy. The few pure cashmere sweaters were $200 more.
