I like the J.Crew pants and am thinking about a pair for myself. Sorry on the loafers, though - I'm voting frump. It's the heel, and the fact that my mother had in pair just like them in the 1970's.

I think the bright red deflects the frump on the loafers. Your outfits are so stylish and shoe comfort trumps all.
I'm thinking of trying the trousers too although maybe I should stick to jeans with a casual life style. Love the idea of purple.

My initial reaction to the shoes is frumpy as well. But sometimes shoes can change their tone depending on the outfit.

The pants are beautiful. I think the purple are different and would fit into your style.

The shoes remind of my mother so they look outdated. I hope the pants fit you as I have heard from other forum members that J. Crew does not believe in hips.

That brand of shoe is insanely comfortable. I have a pair of dressy sandals by that brand which are great.

I think if you'll wear them with pants the style is fine. I wouldn't wear that style of shoe with skirts. You can try them on at the store Walking On A Cloud.

I think the shoes may look at little 1970s, but Gucci 1970s. So you'd have to make sure they look intentional.

I think the shoes border on frump but I like the red. Sveta, what size shoe do you wear? Have you ever looked at the Amalfi Oste loafer? ( I'd do a link but you know, tech challenged!) Comes in lots of colors and extended sizes, lower heel, narrower toe, a little less clunky. The style has been offered for years but I think it's a little more stylish. And very comfy, I have it in several colors! Lots of retailers carry it, you should be able to find one that ships to Canada.

I hear you on shoes. These would frump me in a heartbeat so a I can say is, do you have the energy to look for some more modern element thst stll allows the comfort zone. Low heel + larger toe box are 2 factors. To me, a flatter, oval- classic loafer looks less frumpy because I think it's be re- born a bit; also I got a monks trap style shoe that I THINK looks less frumpy for the comfort level. Also am looking at more no- lace oxfords.
There are shoe discussions on Corporette that deal with heeled loafers as classic and necessary for business trouser comfort , so I was encouraged by that but still think it is hard to find the right one.

I think you have to try the pants. I am smiling at the thought of purple. But it is a little difficult when you can't see the shade...it would work really well with white, lilac (maybe?), citron, grey, some of your button front shirts...black coat....but...a lot depends on the precise tone.

The shoes....have a look at spring collections and what is coming in at Nordstrom's. I am wondering if their 70s look might actually read "cool" if styled the right way. I love the red; red is best!

If they are from Shoeme then the return is easy -- could make sense to order just in case.

I'm a spanner. The loafers have great potential. Thumbs up. Love the red. They will look even better on Sveta, who I have met three times, which helps me enormously with this feedback. She will COMPLETELY pull off the style with sass and panache. No frump-factor at all. I am 100% confident about that.

The Maddies are AMAZING. They have pockets and the lining does not come through. They don't pull or whisker, and fit TTS. Plenty of room on the thighs, and a good fit on the bottom. No slouch. They are soft and not itchy at all (wool pants can be itchy). I love the off-centre seam down the front. YES. They will probably work well for you. Hmmm. Navy if you don't have navy yet. Although the purple is more fun. Think you can style them?

Now I can wear Red-Out. xo

Sveta, I think you will rock these pants in purple! And I like the red shoes for you although I wouldn't have chosen them in a line-up. You have a good eye!

I'm hoping that my review holds more weight, Una. *smiling*. As I said further up in the comments, the wool blend is not scratchy at all (I am very sensitive to wool). They are thick, so there is no need for lining. I think they would work well on you, although you might need to size down.

Angie, until your comment I was questioning my fashion sense with all this "frump" feedback. I was racking my brain trying to understand what is the difference between these loafers and the ones from your post. All I can see is that the heel is wrapped and 0.5" higher and the vamp is not as high.
I think I will try them out with your approval - especially as shoeme has free shipping and returns in Canada. Red it is then!I also ordered a whole bunch of other loafers from shoe me - I really want a pair for summer. When they arrive I will post the pictures.
I think I will try the pants too - I wish JCrew had a better shipping policy for Canada.

late to comment and seems to be already decided - but i would never call those a frump shoe. I would call them a lovely professional work shoe. Are they cutting edge high fashion - No. As a work shoe they are wonderful and will look fab with your work wardrobe and your stylings.
