I think you look great in all of those colors! I'm so excited to see how you start adding them to your wardrobe.

In terms of makeup, I agree that you shouldn't buy things you won't use. If you are looking for other ways to add some style to your head you can always try a haircut - mine used to be long and straight, and adding bangs (and now cutting off 10" into a styled bob) made a huge difference no matter what makeup I had on. It was such a fast way for me to dramatically increase my style quotient, and cheaper than buying a bunch of makeup.

I love the cerulean on you as well as the color in the original photo. Although I have darker skin, I follow the rules of a Winter, too. The color palates that others have posted were a big help to me in the past; even though I don't love bright colors in outside of my office, I was able to pick and choose the darker colors that flattered AND appealed to me... so I guess my point is you don't have to wear any color just because it's your season... take what you like and leave the rest.

IMO, makeup is overrated. Most days, I go out only in blush and chapstick. I think I read somewhere that blush is the most important thing for Winters, although I can't remember why. It looks like you have very nice skin, so you don't need to wear makeup unless you want to.

P.S. Nice job on the Photoshop - what a great tool!

Both the greens are smashing on you. And I think every one of the colors you played with works. Jewel tones should definitely be your go-to colors.

It's not that I don't like make-up. For me, both make-up and fashion are a kind of art and science mixed together. I love creating things, from drawings, through digital painting to computer source code and I can appreciate beautiful things. I like make-up on people, but apparently not on myself. I would wear make-up (not everyday, though) if it didn't look unnatural on me.

I want to look more like this... http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2.....50x623.jpg

...but it always ends like this: http://www.ballslist.com/celeb.....bourne.jpg

itari- the look that you like is not a natural look, though. No wonder you can't reconcile yourself to it. That's a very made up and stylized type of make up, and you would have to adjust your eye to seeing that on yourself. I still think that you should experiment with some blush for a natural look.

Itari, I wear makeup daily but I would be hesitant to do full-on Dita Von Teese makeup because I think she looks a bit costumey. She's a beautiful woman, but I recall seeing her on television and her skin looked heavily powdered and the overall impression was artificial. Now, I think artifice has its place, but she is a performer and I am not. My coloring is like Dita's, though my hair color is natural. So, I could do a very similar look and occasionally do. But I keep it sheerer and only wear such makeup by evening. Dita's look is retro and women once were that unabashed about wearing cosmetics. But today's formulations are lighter and more subtle so we simply are not used to seeing dark brow/red lip/flawless skin combos very often. And with coloring like Dita's or mine (and yours is somewhat similar too) a red lip is even more high drama than it would be on a blonde. So, I'm judicious about when to wear my red lipstick, because even though I'm very comfortable with makeup, there are times when I would feel clownish in it too.

Eh, I think I weren't clear enough. I don't really want to be a copy of Dita (although she's gorgeous!), nor I'm going to wear such dramatic make-up. My point was about feeling good in make-up; Dita doesn't look natural, but her appearance is a part of her. If she went out in jeans and trainers, without make-up, that would be much different from her usual style and a bit fake, I guess. She seems very deliberate.

My top priority now is to create my individual style, a sort of identity. I might end wearing make-up everyday. I might realize that I don't really need it. It's all about finding the right things. Now I know that I'm not going to wear hot pink and dye my hair Barbie-blonde. The real trick is about being myself and feeling good in clothes. Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I came to YLF forums to learn and to have fun!

I was reading a book about style and one idea was to create an inspiration board. Collect pictures and articles that you're drawn to, they can be anything, not just fashion. Over time you might start to see a pattern. For me, I found I was drawn to clean lines, warm neutrals, deep blues and greens. I collected a picture of Marilyn Monroe, but on the beach with loose hair. Some people might be drawn to more ornate styles or warm colors. Your inspiration board can give you some insight into your own personal style.

Welcome itari! You are lovely and you've gotten some excellent advice from the ladies. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but a great way to start adding some color to your wardrobe is through accessories, such as scarves, belts, shoes and bags. This is also a great way to add a color that you love but are unsure if it suits your coloring. Instead of wearing it next to your skin, sport it as an accessory instead.

That makes sense about the make-up, Itari. Thanks for clarifying!

Have you gone to different make-up counters for some make-up application? Each line has a different look, and perhaps one will work out for you.
