Hi Hil, I love the idea of all pale neutrals for summer.
I think you are on the right track to prefer a slim skirt. A
slim look under an oversized top is pretty failsafe. Scroll down about halfway
on this page link below and read the post by “Rivergum” – keen lagenlook fan - with the pics of her maxiskirt
and her pants outfit side by side- she agrees!

The next pic is capris, which also produce a slimming effect
similar to the straight skirt.

I had very little success looking on the interwebs for actual
outfit examples that included straight/pencil skirts. Volume over volume seems
to be the norm. (Maxiskirt outfits are there, but the shorter shirts [which I guess
you want at least some of] tend to be A-line.)

It occurs to me that a narrow maxiskirt that is non-stretchy
may be a bit restrictive for a MOTG. But I’m sure you could find a kneelength
linen wrap- around skirt with a tie or button fastening waist that might be
more practical. There seem to be quite a few of those on eBay.
I like the collection below because it seems really suited
to the heat. Not a lot of straight skirts, but not an overly bulky and heavy
construction, as lagenlook goes.

And here’s “Rivergum”s
pinboard - full throttle draping, oversizing, volume, asymmetry/ geometry.
Love it!!!
