Ever return something really reluctantly? I actually really like this dress and bought it for some upcoming summer wedding events. It's totally my style, and it fits me pretty well - would do with a slight adjustment to perfectly fit, but absolutely wearable as is. The petite is perfect length at ankle. The fabric is heavy and falls nicely. I love everything about it except the color. Well, I like the color. It is an olivey taupe and dark brown, not black. And, so, matching shoes is almost impossible.
I've dithered with this for a week. I put all of my shoes near it. Boy do taupes reveal their true undertones - grey, purple, blue, yellow - when beside the another taupe! Black is stark next to the deep brown. But the brown is also really hard to match - most browns are too chocolately, or reddish or yellowish. It needs a brownish black. Blackish brown.
Spent some time looking for shoes. I even looked at the dozen nude shades in a brand I can't remember to see if one would work.

It's hard to tell in the photo - some of the shoes look like they work.
And sure, I could wear this with black or the wrong nude or taupe. But it would bug me the minute I got outside in natural light.
So, the dress is going back.
In conclusion, especially when you have a wide foot, it's easier to find dresses than shoes!
