OMG Thistle - don't you know you will look totally awesome in anything you wear!! Look I am the princess of black and leggings and many, many stylish ladies would rather be drawn and quartered than be stuck in that!! I hope you feel wonderful in your high rise jeans and I have absolutely no doubt that you will rock them like nobodys business!!

I say embrace your mom jeans! Also, I think there are mom jeans and mom jeans. Personally I love wearing my Birks in summer, they are just so comfortable. Those are a no go here and I'm still feeling a bit selfconscious wearing them, but I do it anyway. I still haven't found a fashionable sandal that's comparable.

Thanks for reminding me Astrid....my confession is that I wear Birkenstocks in the summer too, mostly around the house....the standard oiled leather ones. It's my inner hippie/boho personality asserting itself. NOTHING feels better on my feet, and I learned long ago that if my feet are happy, I am happy:-)

I'm glad I read through this one, I wasn't sure what mom jeans were! I didn't wear jeans for years, and really steered clear of pants altogether. Now that I have found NYDJ, my life has been changed-LOL!

Hmm, as far as unfashionable items worn out of personal preference, that does require some thought. I'm not sure what is considered unfashionable, and I definitely dance to my own beat when it comes to style...TBC

I'm with Angie -- I seriously doubt you are wearing your jeans in true "mom style"!

Confession-wise, I'm with Suz. I'm wearing gear right now. My excuse is that I woke up at 5:30 am to drive hubs to the airport and went straight to the gym afterwards for yoga class and a half hour on the treadmill. I need some chill out time with my coffee before I shower and dress for the rest of the day! But I could easily wear my gear all day long if I don't have anything going on.

P.S. Regarding high-waisted jeans, my life was changed forever when low-waisted styles came around and I tried them. I finally, finally had jeans that did not sag inches below my crotch and give me strange bulges. I seriously doubt I will ever go back to a high-waisted jean on short-waisted me!

High five, Aquamarine! I have the classic black leather sandals.

Ooh, I have black Birks, too! I almost didn't bring them to FL, but like the fake Uggs in Tahoe, I reach for the birks all the time to slip on for running to the mailbox, laundry room, etc. I don't wear them 'out' anymore (unless I have recently sprained an ankle - they were a godsend then).

This post has made me laugh. I also wear fake Uggs. So warm and comfy. Also I generally spend most of the weekend in yoga pants unless I have to leave the house.

This is how I picture mom jeans: higher rise pants that are pulled even a little higher to create a touch too much tightness in the nether regions (camel toe?). Also too short in the hem showing white athletic socks and worn out sneakers. Thistle, if you ever wear your "mom jeans" that way I will eat my North Face fleece and other gear that I secretly love.

I'm not sure what 'mom' jeans are by high rise jeans have been very trendy in Britain for a couple of years now, only skinny ones though, I guess. I only wear J Brand Marias but my friend swears by Cheap Monday.

I am a gear wearer as well. I love gear when I am not at work.

got the link from an online fashion article that mentioned they were in style again

Ha! So funny. I know what you mean but also what you don't mean. I think you are doing swell to find the fits that flatter by being fitted or fluid in the right places. And maybe adjusting that a bit as fit styles shift. I think it's also an issue for me, a fellow pear ish person with a waist-- it just feel better when the pant waist is at or near my real waist. Also LOL at descriptions of " midrise or high rise-- they have no idea!!
So anyway, this is why I've gravitated to some of the styles in which a higher waist is " intentional" or trending, because that is more natural to me.

After buying two flattering, good-quality drape cardigans for my lounge capsule, I'm accepting that some of the time I just really want ... fleece.
