Congratulations for meeting your goals for January! Obviously a new pair of gym pants are in order, but I think you are right to wait a bit to tailor your clothes. And when you do, go to the best tailor you can find, since your clothes should fit perfectly afterward.
Honestly, I would look to online second hand sources that ship to Canada for such specific needs. It takes years to find specific things at the thrift store but these days you can find quite a bit in minutes on line.

Congrats on your new habits! How about you take the sophisticated and I take the whimsical?

Lisa, I enjoyed reading of your goals and your successes. Congratulations! I often think that the first steps on a new journey are the hardest and you have those behind you. Black does sometimes get a bashing, but black can also be chic, classic, polished and sophisticated. I agree that hair, makeup and jewelry make a huge difference. When black is the back drop, it may also allow others to see us, not our clothes. I’m wishing you continued success on your journey.

I'm thrilled with the pats-on-the-back and congratulatory messages ! I often make these bold statements and don't follow through but have surprised myself with this new program I've set out for myself. It means a lot to have other women recognize the commitment, and I thank you all.

DonnaF - sure , let's trade mistakes

shevia - great tip, but I admit to being a little afraid of that kind of shopping this early in my commitment to search out alternatives to new. Maybe as I gain a bit more experience

Funny story: today, an older woman stopped me in the gym while I was on the floor doing something completely unfitness related , and asked if I was a trainer as she needed some help with something . I wasn't even dressed in workout clothes - but of course wanted to say "yes, yes I am"

Tonight I'm using Super Bowl as an excuse to have a treat : a glass of wine and some chips . Back to keto/fasting tomorrow ! Hope you all have a great evening - and enjoy a few treats too !

Good to hear from you, Lisa. Great that your plan is working so well. I hear you on the alterations. I have never had any luck with that one. Hems and small adjustments at the waist are about it for me.
Black seems to work so well for certain looks. I like black but not on me.

Totes are out?! Backpacks are in?!

I'm glad to see that not everyone hates, loathes black on YLF. This sudden dislike of black was a surprise to me. It has always been the cornerstone of my wardrobe. I can't imagine ever not having it as a neutral.

Wow, it seems you had a great month all over, happy for you, and...I too love and feel powerfull in black!!:-)

Sometimes, things just click into place mentally for making long-desired habit changes. Go you!

Lisa, I'm sure JLo and Shakira rebooted your motivation!! They certainly did mine; I'll be doing squats today for sure lol!!!

Great job. Keep going , that is the hardest after success ( I mean throw your chips packet in the bin after one bowl ).

You're absolutely right Adriana, and I didn't like how I felt having chips and wine - at all. Not guilty, per se, but just not happy with how junky food makes me feel. I'm over it - and back to better eating today

I didn't actually watch the Super Bowl - just listened from another room while reading a book

Yay you! I’m impressed and inspired. I’ve been toying with trying to eliminate added sugar from my diet - I’ve been reading labels and it is everywhere! So kudos to you. Social alcohol and snacks are my beet noir! Thanks for updating us.

Wow good for you! It is hard to stick with something like that but the rewards make it easier and 10 lbs is a big deal.

I'm another fan of black, both because it's a good base for other colors and because it's easy to find.

Yay Lisa well done what you have accomplished is impressive!
As someone who is is rather impulsive with regards to shopping I too have started 2020 with the goal of being more mindful of my purchases. I fell off the wagon last week with a $12.99 workout legging from Costco . They are going back as they don't fit properly, the old me would have kept as they were cheap.
Keep going !

Congrats on the weight loss and shopping reform- I'm proud of you! Yes to black, passing on anything whimsical, but also buying new workout tights as needed. I'm cutting way back on the sugar and chips too- and trying to stick to "eat real food, not too much, mostly plants" .

I may be one of the few that don't think you should buy new workout tights ..... yet.

You are only one month into your year long challenge. I recognize you lost weight and I congratulate you on that, but if you start buying clothes you risk restarting the whole shopping cycle.

Everyone says it is only one pair of workout tights, but I think it is bigger than a single garment. I imagine it as a mental hurtle that once breached becomes easier and easier to breach until suddenly all your hard work is for naught and you are right back where you started.

You will have a lot of people telling you to go out and shop. There will be myriad reasons why you should shop. I encourage you to stay strong. If the workout pants don't work for you, can something else in your wardrobe substitute?

Wow - Lisa you are such an inspiration, as were both JLo and Shakira in the Super Bowl. I love this idea, 2020 Year of Reform - I have a few habits that could do with a shake up and will start this month February with no excuses allowed!

I thought I responded to this already, but it looks like I didn't. Huge congrats to you! These are some big goals and changes, and you've clearly been rocking it.

I think a new pair of workout tights are in order. I kept hitching up my running tights yesterday (what is up with that? I don't think I've lost a single pound, and I certainly know I have not become a size 6 overnight!), and it was driving me nuts. It's distracting when you're doing focused fitness work. They don't have to be super high end, just something that fits the body you have now.

It's funny - the workout tights comment was only meant to be a bit of humour. I have about 20 pair of tights/leggings, and while they may now fit a bit differently, they are FINE. Different brands, sizes etc. The bigger ones I'll give to my DD, if she'll lower herself enough to wear her mother's cast-offs - I am of Sterling's school of thought regarding buying anything new while in the process of weight loss or habit -changes. It's fun to try on new clothes when you are feeling slimmer, but past experience shows that it's a slippery slope best left stayed away from altogether.

Thanks for all of your wonderful comments ! Really appreciate it.

Great to “see” you Lisa and I’m glad things have been going so well! Kudos to you for keeping to both your dietary and no-shopping goals. That would be very difficult for me I have to say. I can add discipline in ONE area at a time it seems. But you are rocking tackling multiple areas at once. It seems you really are an “all or nothing” person — you know yourself well and often self awareness is a big part of the battle. Cheers!

Congratulations! Your first month was stellar. My first month was not bad, but not like yours.

I'm so impressed with all you've accomplished. You're in the midst of a huge lifestyle change, and I really think the yearlong commitment is going to be what helps it stick. I like how you call it a year of "reform" because that's really what it is--taking the time to alter habits and change your default settings to ones that are more positive long-term.

Glad you took the time to report in, though. I've missed you around here!

Wow - what a journey you’ve been on Lisa! I too am an all-or-nothing person - that is, I find it easier to make a bunch of changes at once than one small change which often doesn’t stick.
How are the hobbies coming along, and the music?
I’ve managed to get to meditation most mornings and I’m moving more. I’m trying to work painting in some mornings, too. Knitting is next if I can ever next where I put my needles!

This is awesome news Lisa, congratulations!
I'm glad you popped in with an update, always love to hear how things are going with you.

High five to your observation that cute/whimsical is not you, lp. Same here.

Also, I agree with the folks suggesting that if meeting other goals that matter to you (such as dietary shifts) are changing your size/shape, it's not a fail to replace needed items with ones that fit you and let the larger ones go.
