2 J Crew pants reviews (a good one !)

Received both of these today. Not sure about my size in J Crew bottoms so sized up to be sure. The Maddie pant, as already discussed by viva and Umlila, is gorgeous. Top quality stretch wool, fully tailored and detailed. Excellent, excellent fit. Love the zippered front pockets too. Wish they were about an inch longer, but I certainly will get a ton of wear out of these. Ordered Heather Graphite.

The cargo pants are great, albeit stiffer than I expected. Fit is perfect, cuff is nice and the colour is an interesting washed khaki. Again, wish they were a tiny bit longer, but they are exactly how the model is wearing them in the photo. These are perfect 3 season pants (too heavy for summer). Excellent construction and fabric = good value for the money.

Two thumbs up for both!

Fabulous!! That is excellent news! So now, you know your J. Crew pant size! I am tempted to order the Maddies too but have noted on my "what I'm wearing" list that I do not wear my non-denim trousers very often at all. So it would probably be a waste of my money. Sigh.

Angie - the top-notch quality tailoring of these and the substantial yet fine wool is making me think red pants may be in my future too. Totally off-the-wall for me, but these pants are among the nicest I've ever seen. You see, this is a perfect example of what is worth buying from the US. There aren't a lot of Canadian retailers doing super wool pants with fully tailored details . Club Monaco used to be counted on for it, but they've not continued their wool suiting programs in the depth they used to. The rest are poor imitations , or way off the scale at the designer end.

No pics - WIW's in winter seem like a lot of work:) Getting boots cleaned off enough to wear inside, finding decent indoor light etc - I think I'll wait 'til April . And maybe I'll be back to my regular weight. (and ordering 10 more new pair of pants - lol)

J Crew is one US online retailer that regularly has my business because I get a good fit in their pants and tops. Once I figured out my size, and as long as I read the reviews and descriptions carefully, I usually get the fit right. It also helps to get to their stores every now and again for a marathon try-on of different styles in a variety of sizes. If I go mid-week when the schools are in session, the stores aren't busy and the sales associates usually get a kick out of bringing me piles of things to try on, along with bottles of water and even the odd coffee to help keep my stamina up.

Elizabeth P, I find my BR size in pants is usually a good starting point for my J Crew pants. Occasionally I'll size up if the style is described as very skinny, or if it is a collection item, because I don't like my pants to fit too tightly. Same goes for tops, but, if the style is described as loose or boxy, I size down unless I want a really voluminous look. And, oddly, the one time I bought shorts in J Crew Factory outlet, I needed to size down because my regular J Crew size was huge. I don't know if that was an anomaly because it's the only time I've ever bought from their outlet.

What! This is great!! No need to be quiet; I'm glad you're talking and reviewing as I just called on the Maddie pants today and I'm going in to the J. Crew store on Monday to check out sizing and then decide if I want to order the navy or black.

So, Lisa, I'm thrilled with your feedback. It makes wish I could go in sooner. I'm so excited to hear about the fit. You mentioned wishing they were an inch longer. How tall are you? I'm 5' 3-1/2" or 5' 4" if I stand up tall!

Elizabeth, you can also call JCrew and get measurements for the size you consider. They gave me high hip, low hip and thigh (just below the crotch point) circumferences. I compared to other pants I have and ordered based on this (life will show if it was a wise decision :-0 )

vicki, elizabeth p - I'm 5'5'' ,with longer legs and short torso. My size is new to me. I have put on a significant amount of weight since September (10 lbs) and it's made my size jump by at least 2. It seems to be consistent with what I have tried on recently in BR and GAP. Sorry if I sound less than forthcoming - I'm in the process of an aggressive weight loss program - all is a little sensitive right now. These Maddie pants are JUST anklebone length, and no longer .

You can take the hems down on the pants, if you want them longer, Lisa. I'm SO glad you love them - me too. I keep on thinking of another colour to get - but can't find one. Blast. I'd love one in a clean pastel or French blue.

They are about the same length on me as on the model, but I prefer to wear them with high vamped footwear. Looks fresher and more modern to my eye.

Haven't figured out the footwear for these yet. I plan to take them on my 5 day work trip to Toronto next week. Today is going to be a capsule /layout on the bed day. If you don't hear from me again, it's because I'm trapped under a mound of clothes on my bed
