Frye Rory Slouch Boot

I own these boots and they are heavenly. They made my favourites list for 2009 and will probably make the list for 2010. They are extremely soft and buttery and work with just about everything in my wardrobe. I wear them over jeans and with dresses and skirts, both dressy and casual. They scrunch down on the leg. Perfect for both a narrow and wide calf and available in black, dark brown and cognac.

What can I say. I fully and completely agree with Angie’s description above. I’m absolutely in love with these boots. I love the chunky heel that still looks elegant. I love the incredibly soft leather and the slouchiness of these boots.

They are extremely versatile: I wear them over leggings and jeans, with dresses and skirts (No small feat, because I was convinced the “slouchy boots + dress/skirt look’ wasn’t for me. It’s the heel that allows me to pull it off I think).

I was a little worried about the fact that they don’t have a zipper, but the pull-on tabs work very well. They are quite easy to get on and off.

I feel a little edgy and very happy whenever I wear these;-)

Oh yes, I bought them in black, but really like the way the cognac colour adds extra interest in all the outfits Angie has worn them with (see pics on the blog).

Stunning. I ordered them and, knowing that they have a reputation for running big, ordered a size 9 (I take either 9 or 9.5). The boot was gorgeous but the 9 seemed to be a full size too large for me so I had to return them.

I ordered other Fyes (Perforated Slouch boots) in a size 9 and they fit perfectly, so I guess different boots within the same brand fit differently. If you decided to order them online, you might consider trying them on in a store first, or at least order them from a place (like Zappos, which Angie’s store links to) which has great return policies. If I were spending more time in the US, I’d order a second pair of these from Zappos, but in a size 8.

Comfort: The surface leather and the boot shaft IS buttery soft. The foot bed is a bit harder than expected, but has a very gentle, comfortable arch shape. The heel feels even lower and more stable than I expected given the heel height.

Aesthetics: Beautiful! The “sand” color has more warmth and ruddy brown tones than expected – a plus for me, since I was sad that the cognac color wasn’t available on sale. The workmanship is beautiful, and I think that the distressed-but-refined color will look good as it ages.

Ease of use: These boots were a BEAR to get on the first time. Oh my. It wasn’t the calf circumference that got me since I had the boot fabric scrunched, but that the stiff part between the front and back of the boot didn’t allow much give. I really had to work to get my foot in there, but it was easier the second time. I expect that the soft leather will stretch slightly as I put them on more and more, & will test this out.

Fit: The shoe runs slightly large, which I expected (I ordered a size down.) As I knew, my calves are too large to pull the boot all the way up, so that is not an option – I bought them to wear scrunched.

I just got these boots (on sale, lured by Angie’s recent “boots on sale” post :-)) and am in heaven. My first Frye’s! I haven’t been this excited about a pair of boots in a couple years. I wore them for the first time last nite and was so tickled. I got them in “sand” which is quite a unique color, which adds to my enjoyment. They look awesome with dark jeans and with black. Super comfy, beautiful leather and styling.

I recently discovered YLF while reading theh blog Colour Me Happy. The blogger had a style session with Angie and posted her photos. Angie was wearing the Rory boots with a blue dress and I fell in love with them on the spot! Then I discovered YLF, then the store, and the rest is history.

Because this boot was only available in black, I started there. But, Zappos customer service being as amazing as it is, they notified me when my size became available in Sand, and I bought those, too. They complete my Frye collection – one 25 year old pair of cowboy boots, a 2 year pair of clunky square toed boots, and now my new favorites.

Sized down 1/2 size. I have wide feet and these are super comfy. As a runner, I have developed calves, so these aren’t going anywhere but scrunched.

LOVE THEM.

After much searching for a knee-high boot to wear with skirts and dresses, I finally gave in and tried the Rory. I admit I was skeptical of a “slouch” boot…it wasn’t really my look. But now that I’ve tried it, I actually love it!

The Rory boot stays up on my leg and slouches only slightly…just enough to give it a hip, casual look. I got the dark brown, which is actually a nice chestnut brown, from Zappos…and on sale at the end of the season. What luck!

It’s super comfortable and versatile. Just the right mix of casual and polished. Love!
