Intimate Chanel

Intimate Chanel was written with the help of Gabrielle Palasse-Labrunie, Coco Chanel’s grand-niece, and promises an intimate insight into the private world of the designer. It includes never before published pictures of Ms. Chanel’s personal effects and reveals details about her love of symbolism and poetry, the men in her life, her family and her nephew Andre Palasse: “unveiling who ‘her Auntie Coco’ really was, a Chanel who was very different from her public persona.”

The Gentlewoman

The Gentlewoman entered the style magazine scene only last year but has already made a bit of a name for itself. It combines an elegant somewhat minimalist aesthetic with good photography, profiles of talented women from a wide range of fields, and fashion spreads with a twist. It wants to “challenge the traditional representation of female style with more sophisticated and in-depth oriented content”. The magazine is published twice a year, so if you take out a subscription it might be a while before your first issue arrives.

ValentinoThe Last Emperor

An honest look behind the scenes that portrays a year in the life of Italian haute couture designer Valentino Garavani and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti. It covers a period from preparations for the 2006 Spring/Summer collection in Paris to the 2007 museum retrospective celebrating his 45 year career. This is a documentary about their lifelong partnership, Valentino’s love of beauty and the female form, and perhaps the end of a fashion era as the couturier renowned for his red dresses retires at the age of 75.
