Wendy at Glossed Over has made it an annual tradition to take her readers through the notoriously thick September issue of American Vogue. She reads each and every page, and blogs about it live. This year it took her over nine hours! You may not agree with her opinions, but you have to admire her stamina.

German women’s magazine Brigitte has decided to start using professional cover models again after complaints from readers. One of the reasons given is that working with women who aren’t professional models is more time-consuming, and therefore more expensive.

CR Fashion Book, the much talked about magazine of Carine Roitfield will hit the newsstand on September, 13. In the meantime the ex editor-in-chief of French vogue has announced that “Birth and Rebirth” is the theme for the debut issue. Will you be standing in line to get a copy?

Continuing this theme, Vildy liked the piece “What Womenswear Bloggers Can Learn from Menswear Bloggers” for thinking about what kind of approach encourages each of us to buy certain items.

SHEfinds blogged about their five fashion commandments to live by. The fifth commandment, “Shop often, buy sparingly”, resonated with Kristin because she likes to walk around stores but usually goes home empty-handed.

JulieJohn found Sally’s blog post on how different boot shaft heights affect the way your legs look very informative, especially the fact that different contrast levels between the colour of your boots and pants are also part of the equation.

“Skin is in… and it’s sophisticated”, reports The Wall Street Journal (subscription only). Makrame enjoyed reading their take on this Fall’s new refined and tailored leather trend.

Wow. Brigitte Magazine’s decision to go back to professional models is very interesting. I totally agree that catwalk models need to be tall and well proportioned for the best effects *on stage*. But magazine photography is a different animal in my opinion. There, I like to see as much diversity as possible.

Yup. After browsing through most of the S/S 2013 shows at NYFW, mid and light tone blues are big. That’s in line with Pantone

Re: Brigitte Magazine’s decision… I usually think, “follow the money” — perhaps sales are down? You usually bring in new management when that happens, and there’s a new editor in place. Sure, there were people who were uncomfortable about using real people (sounds like a focus group discussion). But I am sure there were many who loved seeing real people modeling in the magazine.

I can totally see how it is more of a hassle to use real people — the recruiting, longer photo sessions, perhaps more photos need to be taken, more editing.

I still think your idea Angie of having a modeling agency with, maybe not “real” people, but more “realistic” models of all ages, races, and body types — is one whose time has come.

Loved the pantone link, I’ve bookmarked it for when I edit my spring / summer closet. (Not happening yet, still in the high 90s here).

A tip! This is how to read a “subscription only” wsj article. Find the exact title of the piece by clicking on the link in the ylf post. In this case the title is The Lady Wears Leather

Then, into your google search window, type (with quotes) “the lady wears leather” wsj

That’s it. The first result will be a link to the entire article. This is not cheating, wsj (and others) made the decision that proprietary information would be available through search engines.

Thanks for the tip adelfa. It didn’t work if I put in those search terms on my Bing toolbar. But it did work when I went through the Google home page.

Wow 9 hours to read a magazine, now that is true determination!

I really like the transition your summer wardrobe ideas, especially to wear fall colors and layers with a straw bag from summer, neat idea!

And I am very excited about Blue for spring!

I always look forward to September, not for back to school excitement but of course to treat myself to the big, thick and juicy September Vogue. Did not know about Carine Roitfield’s new enterprise but it is sure to be a fashion education.
