How to Store Footwear

I recently wrote an article for GalTime on how to store footwear. It went live today, so take a peak.

Right now I’m on a ferry to the San Juan Islands, where I’ll be staying for a few days while I work with one of my clients. I’ve never been to the San Juan’s so I’m excited about visiting a new place as well as meeting my client and getting stuck into her wardrobe. Should be fun, festive and productive!

There won’t be an afternoon blog post on Tuesday or Wednesday but it’s back to our normal blogging schedule on Thursday.

This was a great post Angie. I look forward to hearing about your adventure in the San Juan Islands. The last time we were there, the Coast Guard stopped our Canadian whale watching vessel for straying into US waters- but what a lovely part of the NW coast!

Wow, I’m envious of your trip! Sounds fab!

I store my work shoes in an over-the-door rack in a hall closet that also holds my hubby’s shoes in hanging cubbies. So no clothes nearby to get dirty and I love having all my shoes at eye level.

The rest of my shoes and boots and sandals are on shelves in the newly-built-out closet in the newly-re-done guest room. It’s just heavenly having everything easily visible and accessible!

How wonderful! I spent 4 weeks in the San Juan’s in college studying marine biology, and fell in love with the place. Enjoy your visit! I hope the weather cooperates. (oh, and thanks for the tips on shoe storage, too!)

These tips will be useful! I have a metal shoe rack near my front door, but honestly my shoes (barring special occasion shoes, which are in shoe boxes in the closet) are mostly scattered on the floor of my front entrance hallway (between my front door and the rest of my apartment) and it’s kind of a mess! I do like to keep the majority of my shoes near the front door though since I don’t wear shoes indoors and I prefer not to track outside dirt and grime, particularly in the winter, through my apartment.

great tips! i actually do a combination of all these things. i really love the shoe cubby though and will try to add one when (here’s hoping) we buy our house!

Have a safe and fun trip! I really like the shoe cubby idea. I currently store my shoes on a 3-tier shoe rack in the closet. But the shelves have an angle, so they shoes slip forward all the time. And they get dusty. A cubby may work better.

Great article, Angie! We have a shoe cubby out in the garage where we store our sneakers and shoes for the yard. I keep my shoes stacked in their original boxes on a long shelf in my closet. I do like your idea of clear boxes, though.

I store my shoes in clear plastic boxes in the bottom of my wardrobe. I don’t find it takes much more time to select the right pair as the boxes are in 2 pieces and have a clasp that just pulls up on either side x
