Lisa I totally here you on not wanting a preloved Hermes scarf - however my sister has an obsession with Hermes scarves (she is much more classic in her style than I am) and she has purchased hers preloved, mostly via Ebay and they are genuine. She absolutely loves here little collection and wears them frequently.

I don't know that I have one - for clothes or accessories, anyway. I'm too used to the low-to-mid range and I fear that if I bought a high-end designer item I'd be spoiled and never be able to wear my regular clothes, shoes and bags happily again. Then again, I've seen designer stuff in the thrift stores on occasion and with very rare exception they don't really seem that much nicer than mall store stuff. Nicer, but not hundreds of percents of money nicer.

Jewelry would be a good investment, I suppose. Maybe a nice watch. Honestly, I'd much rather have a rare out-of-print book or a trip to foreign lands...

I have always wanted a Rick Owens fitted leather jacket in a grey or olive green. It's not really practical because there are probably only 3 months of the year I could wear it because of our warm weather, and I will never, ever pay $4K for a jacket, but.....we can all dream.....

It would be a toss up between a really nice watch or a really nice big black designer handbag. Both would be used constantly and NOT stay at home being saved for an "occasion".

These threads are always so dangerous for me! I learn about new luxuries I never even knew I wanted.

Now I'm trolling the Internet for a starter silk square. Lisa, I love the idea of wearing it more loosely, pinned beneath an article of clothing.

A ridiculously heavy vintage Bulgari choker necklace, with aquamarines. Never to be taken off neck.
Ridiculous opulence goes with Everything.

Ohhh Olivegreen, I like your idea too ....and I so agree, ridiculous luxury goes with everything

Ah! A fellow voluptuary, Lisap! I got this idea from a friend whose family had been very wealthy and she had been disinherited, but not before an aunt gave her about five feet of platinum and diamond rope. She wore that thing gardening and woodworking! Perfectly safe as no one would believe it was real. Thing cost more than the her house and she refered to it as her retirement.
See, practical!

Love this story - that would totally be me

I had been thinking about this most of yesterday and cannot come up with anything really, except I would love a Patek Philippe watch. I love watches more than bracelets or necklaces or earrings. I am trying to decide if I want to treat myself to such an expensive piece when I turn 60.

Completely politically incorrect. I'd love a very dramatic, light-as-a-feather sheared mink Burberry trench that I'd wear every day, everywhere for at least 6 months every year.

My first choice would be a new black leather blazer-like jacket (when I find one that is affordable it doesn't fit, when it fits it's out of my budget), but I would be quite happy with a long or midi-lenght convertible dress in a flattering color too.

Mine would be an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany Bone Cuff in silver for my left wrist. The one I actually love is the split cuff but I think it would be too large and dramatic for every day wear. I was at Tiffany's on Saturday and tried the ruthenium one but really want the silver. My husband almost fainted when I told him the price but the compromise is that if I get it that will be my big ticket item for the year. The SA I talked to put my name down in a list and will let me know when she gets one.

Another would be a Hermes shawl, not a scarf, a big shawl in vibrant colours. I have a Hermes scarf that I never wear but I love it so much that I've been thinking of having it framed. It's called "Brise de Charmes" and it had fans all over it (I love fans). It looks like this colourway.

Greyscale's answer really resonated with me. I don't seem to stay with one dream object. It would probably be a bag, though. There was a very classic, simple Ferragamo satchel I kept coming back to as an aspirational-style purse. If I had to choose one item, it would have to be something so simple and classic that I felt I could (and would) wear it forever.
