Agreeing there is something very special about a Hermes scarf Lisa.
I'd probably upgrade my Tag Heuer for a Rolex.....I love a beautiful watch. Or maybe a large diamond ring. Either way it would be a precious, bejewelled, investment piece that I could wear every day for the rest of my days and leave to be inherited and worn for a long time thereafter.

Even though I'm not much of a purse person, I want one expensive, luxurious, designer bag that:

  1. doesn't fall apart
  2. stays on my shoulder
  3. doesn't otherwise annoy me
I keep telling myself I'm going to save up for one, but then never do.

A beautiful, butter-soft leather jacket in ink. I would probably wear it to death. Far less practical but something I'd love to own: a gorgeous evening gown, probably in a sumptuous heavy silk - midnight, teal or deep blue-red. Alas, I have no need of such an item, but a girl can dream.

Hmm, this one is tough for me......................Wow, is it possible that at the moment I don't need or want a single thing?! I am out of ideas! Unbelievable! I guess I'm a lucky lady, I'm happy with what I have at the moment and I'm not currently wishing for anything.

I'm not really itching for anything special at the moment, and I had a couple of splurges over the last few years (dialing it back now), but if someone were to give me a beautifully made, perfectly fitting, long (trench length), jewel-toned (teal or burgundy) leather coat, I wouldn't be sad. Something like those Burberry bespoke ones...

And then, there is my elusive LBD -- the perfect black or solid color not-dressy day dress that is interesting, yet flattering. With sleeves, and covers my knees. Never have found it. A HEWI for sure.

Lisa, not to enable you or anything, but over at the Vivienne Files, she sometimes sells her Hermes scarves....

The one you picked is gorgeous, though. The colours would be fantastic.

Question: Are the Hermes scarves made of the slippery satin silk? If so, I'd worry about losing one. I have one silk scarf made in that kind of satin weave and it is a devil to keep on, unlike my other scarves.

chanel Moonphase watch. It's a ridiculous sum of money.

Some really really nice black oxfords, soft leather but structured, preferably patent leather, feminine enough but timelessly androgynous. It's so much of a dream that I don't even know what designer or brand I would choose because I rarely even peruse the shoes if they don't meet my current budget. I have this dream because I'm on my third pair of decent black oxfords now (spanning 10 years or so) and they are always my best buds in the shoe closet, I can imagine what it would be like to have fabulous ones.

I've been mulling this one over, actually finding it a bit tricky! But I think I've landed on one... a black sheepskin coat. I have a brown one (and I no longer wear brown) and I bought it in the 90's (so I swim in it). But it's sooooooo warm and cozy! Esp for the damp chilly cold we get here, that cuts to the bone. The lovely little shop in Scotland that I got mine at, at a very reasonable price, is no longer open, and ones I've seen here are well into four digits.

I would wear the heck out of this, the annoying thing is that it is within reach financially but I always have a higher priority to take care of.

A Burberry trench. And I actually think I'll end up buying one eventually.
Other than that.. Maybe a high end watch, even though I don't wear any watch now and don't really need one.

For me it would be a Chanel purse in black or maybe a Saint Laurent bag, again in black. I know I would use either forever.

I haven't put a ton of thought into it. Probably a big soft, Prada bag. I saw one 6 years ago in Italy that seemed over the moon expensive to me. In retrospect it was an amazing deal b.c the economy was beginning to slide. I still think about that bag. And I'm not usually a bag lady.

Great thread love reading responses.

I would love a custom Bespoke afro-steamfunk pantsuit to include a vest and buttonup wit cuff links and tie pin.

Thanks for the reply, Lisa. I hope you get your dream scarf one day. How do you get a slippery scarf to stay on your body without tying it?

I'm high fiving all the Bag Ladies.

A vintage YSL le smoking. Or a new one, but vintage would be cooler.

Burberry trench for me. I'd wear it all the time, and it's the kind of thing that I don't have to worry about it being too precious to use.

Jewelry!!! i don't have a specific designer in mind but for me, an exquisite cocktail ring made of precious stones and real metal. I wear costume jewelry cocktail rings. But I would love a real one that didn't get banged up or worn down to the copper base metal.

cocktail rings for me are the one accessory I always put on for richness and glamour. It's been my signature accessory for 10 years.

Well, the Burberry contingent is quite strong! Followed by the Chanel bag ladies Ah, the life of the luxury goods ladies ...

oh practical Suz I would never want someone else's pre-loved Hermes - that's not the same thing at all. I want the whole experience of selecting the pattern that speaks to me, having it wrapped and boxed and tied, and waltzing out of Holts or Hermes on a cloud of silk Angie - I like a scarf sitting inside the neckline of a blazer or coat untied, just hanging around my neck. Yes,sometimes they slip a little , but not so much that it's ever really a problem. Touching it a playing with it while wearing it is part of the appeal .It's got to be done with a lack of effort, or it looks too "try-hard" to me

I am loving the Chanel watch, and McQueen bags I see posted above.....

My special dream piece would be a super tailored, fits only me, LBD (paired with a pair of killer black pumps). Then I'd walk up and down these office hallways like I owned the place. Haha!

Ha! Such an interesting question. For me, it wouldn't be clothing or accessories at all. I am way too fickle, and I just don't care about clothes that much. (I'm sinning by saying that, I know.) Whatever I would buy, I would probably consider consigning the next year.

Here's my dream item: a bespoke backgammon board. I've wanted one for 20 years and I found this designer a few years ago and I dreeeeeeam about owning one. $5,000 though. Next life, maybe.

vivian - this is sooooo cool! But you are colouring outside the lines here dear

Oh darn. I don't know, a great pair of jeans? hahaha.

I fell hard this year for St Laurent's sooty black suede jacket fringed at the hem, pockets, and spiraling along the sleeves. I'm not even a fringe person generally, and there will never be a time when that price fits in my clothing budget, but oh, if I had that jacket, I think I would wear it with EVERYTHING.

P.S. Lisa, my Hermes scarf (present from my husband) is beautiful, but I confess I find it rather hard to wear. The slippery, crisp twill has a lot of body and tends to bunch or slide around my neck unless I trap it under the neckline of a jacket. Wearing it out to eat worries me, too, as I tend to get spots on things. Nothing beats it for luxe detail, especially with a coat, but most of the time I reach for one of my (thrifted) vintage Italian silk scarves: similarly beautiful designs and fine finishing for a few dollars--and I'm not afraid to wear or wash them!

I would either splurge on a handbag, or jewelry. BUT, I would have to be forced to splurge. It sounds silly, maybe, but the money would have to not be able to be spent on anything else. I got a large stock comp a few years back, and I couldn't bring myself to be anything but practical with it even though DH told me to use some of it buy something for myself I would never normally buy. I just couldn't do it. I used it to pay down more of the mortgage, practical.

I am in the Chanel bag camp. The classic black.

OOOH. That makes sense, Lisa. I like that untied scarf look too. Classic yet Modern.

So with you on not wanting my Chanel or Celine bag to be second hand. I must have the ultimate FIRST hand experience.

Angie , please stop talking about a Celine bag or I'm going to change my mind and post about my secret Givency Pandora bag obsession.

Lisap...I agree with you about not wanting a pre-loved Hermes scarf! Although if I were a thrifter and found one somewhere, ( not likely) I'd be thrilled. A few years ago I treated myself to a Cartier tank watch, and I had researched them for a long time. I could have bought it online, but I went to a Cartier boutique, looked at all my options, tried them on, and made my selection. It was fitted to my wrist and then it came with the beautiful box and bag and the wonderful service which is all part of buying a luxury item. It's a wonderful memory and when I do buy my Hermes scarf, it will be a similar experience.
