Oh Inge, you stole mine...INXS was my absolute FAVORITE!!

I also liked R.E.M., Dire Straits, U2, Duran Duran, the BoDeans, the Indigo Girls and my early 80's favorite was Cyndi Lauper.

Ha, funny wilson! Is that a commentary about the music of the 80s?

Sorry Dani, good taste though;-)

Oh! How fabulous! Thank you ladies! (I’ll start a 90’s one later - Pearl Jam Nirvana and Green Day are 90’s bands, Wilson).

I like to listen to bands who write their own music. It makes it more meaningful somehow.

Inge, Yazoo comes in at #5! You are the only one who has mentioned Yazoo! Spandau Ballet at #6, Roxy Music at #7, INXS at #8, Rush at #9 and the Tears for Fears at #10. There’s my top 10. My top 20 80's bands include Genesis, Joe Jackson, Asia, Sting, Thompson Twins and The Cure. I still listen to this music ALL THE TIME.

Is Yazoo the same band as Yaz? Loved them too!

Joan Armatrading ...

REM
The Smiths
U2
Guns N Roses

I am totally appalled at myself for forgetting Tears for Fears!! Thanks for the reminder Angie! More love for Stevie Nicks and Rush over here too (with a dash of patriotism on the side of the second one).
And George Michael's voice makes me swoon. Michael Hutchence could get that party started too.

Yes, Michelle! Rush is Canadian. They are unbelievable. So glad someone else likes them too. (Cathy!)

I don’t think so Laura. Yazoo had lead singer by the name of Alison Moyet. Their famous album was called “Upstairs at Eric’s”. Does that ring a bell?

So in my top 30 favourite 80’s bands, I’d add U2, Supertramp, Fleetward Mac, Chicago, Journey, Wham, Simple Minds, Blondie and David Bowie.

Off to start the 90’s music thread.

Yay for Rush fans Michelle and Angie; I didn't take you for a Rush type, Angie! Geddy Lee was my bass-playing idol growing up

On to the 90s...

Driving in to work I thought of more:
Genesis/Peter Gabriel
INXS
Eurythmics
Thomas Dolby (Blinded me with science!)
The Bangles
REM

okay, could NOT let this thread pass me by without adding to it! the 80s is my favorite era for rock. so:

aerosmith
queen
def leppard
bon jovi
ac/dc
guns n roses

no, i couldn't keep it to three. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!

Hanna, our lists are so similar! I almost put Def Leppard in the top 4, time to refresh my sugar pouring lyrics. Bon Jovi is DH's fav 80s band. They never grew on me for some reason.

niva, i love it! you and i could be concert buddies :P. i love old school bon jovi, but lately their music seems very watered down.

as part of my birthday treat last year bf bought us tickets to the def leppard concert, with billy idol as the opener -- i sang myself hoarse!

I already submitted my list, but had to come back to add Pat Benetar. Such a great female rock star.

Hmm I was more of a 90s music girl, but here are my fave 80s pics. I have to divide them into Aussie and non-Aussie since there are too many great artists!!!

Aussie:
- Kylie Minogue
- John Farnham

Non-Aussie:
- Madonna
- Mel & Kim
- The Bangles
- Bananarama

ok must stop now!!!

hanna, my 80s list is pretty much similar to yours! I love cheesy hair rock!

Def Leppard, Bon Jovi & Guns N' Roses were definitely my introduction to the 80s. Now in fairness, I love REM and U2's 80s music (I hate their recent music) as well as the Smiths and Joy Division (they were 80s, right?)

Ha, what I listened to IN the 80s then is totally different from what I listen to FROM the 80s now.

Then I was all about Whitney and Madonna.

Now I love pretty much all of it. DH is a huge 80s fan, so our collection is extensive.

Just today I realized it had been a long time since I heard Howard Jones, and I drove into work bopping along to "New Song".
