Hi Fabbers,

Having spent some time 'drooling' over the EF look book - thank you Gryffin - I am considering duplicating my black cropped loose knit top from Metalicus.

They have two colours left. White or Dusty Olive. Now the dusty olive looks grey to me, so I will phone the store and check on that.

My initial thought was to buy the white as I am keen to the type of layering in #1. I already have a soft cotton shirt dress in white. BUT I am a bit sensitive about about such an expense of white. I would normally layer dark over light.

Can I ask what you think? That black one has proven to be an excellent addition to my wardrobe. It's a lovely weight and quite transeasonal.

Knowing your comfort with black, I'd go with the dusty olive. Even if it is more green than grey, olive green is a good mix with black and less contrast than white. On the other hand, your black and white outfits are stunning.

I like the white but I am fine wearing a large expanse of white for myself.
Olive can be a tricky color if you are cool toned - are you? Because you rock the black with the best of them I think you are cool toned but I may be wrong.
How about layering white over black - kind of reversed look from what you usually wear? May be also stunning.

I don't like the olive for you....I can't explain why but it doesn't feel like it's one of your colours.

On the other hand, I'm not a fan of cropped sweaters at all. I don't like the proportions they create....I find they cut too high on the body horizontally and always make a person look broader than they are....always. The black sweater you have works beautifully because it's black, and sliming, and somehow doesn't look bad. But I think white would be harder to style....creating a low contrast would mean wearing white underneath white....I can't quite imagine you doing that though.....

But this is my opinion only...I hope you dont mind my sharing it. If you are drooling over the cropped sweaters....please choose whichever will fit better with your wardrobe at this point.

Maneera, always know you can share freely with me:) I appreciate your thoughts very much and I think that it why I am hesitating on the white. A true olive is not colour I wear. As Sveta said, it's not a great colour on cool toned people. I will have to think carefully on this and maybe see whatelse is out there by way of refined cropped sweaters.

The olive looks like olive on my screen, but it is worth asking because I have a thrifted cowl neck Metalicus top that is very subtly green but works like grey. It would be a more casual look in this colour I think.

How do you usually wear the white shirt? I think white over white (or black over black) with the different textures is what makes that EF look so amazeballs... So I vote white!

I vote white. The olive would create a higher contrast look and you can do that already with the black top you already have. White over white will be very sleek.

If you're ordering online, I suggest you ask for white. Style the white on the cobalt blue dress you wore to church yesterday, a black tunic and then with a white shirt. If the layers have great proportions, the white has more chances of working for you. You'll know how versatile it is too.

I feel that for your wardrobe, a grey or cobalt cropped sweater would be great. Do you wear shades of plum/wine/berry? Those would look good with your colouring too....and go fabulously with black.

I vote on the white. A column of white is such an elegant and strong thing! I have had tried on the white on the white looks in the stores last winter, and I loved it (and I am broad shouldered and well endowed:-))... except I couldn't find me the perfect sweater for it (looking for a raglan sleeve, or proper shoulder seams-not dropped!- for me). There were only some fluffy or chuncky ones, exactly like in your inspiration pictie, and oh man, those were making me broad:-((. But this looks a knit thin and dense enough (for having some structure OR drape!) so I think it can work!

Hmmm, interesting!
I thought olive was usually a good colour for blondes? I must say that as i have become blonder over the years, I am more and more able to wear olive. Perhaps this is not universally true, however.
More broadly, I think the white would be better. Olive won't rock with all of your black, IMO. I have only one olive item, and I find it looks great with cream or white, but a bit dull with black.

White! You handle contrast well and, since you're petite (but look 5'8" on my screen), the top might now be quite as cropped on you. I think it might hit in a good spot for your torso.

I hear you on olive. You would look great with a pair of olive moto or sleek cargo-inspired pants. Olive can flatter the butt when it doesn't flatter the face! A pair of olive pants would give a strong, edgy look to some of your black pieces.

While ordinarily olive would seem like a good choice for a blond, I agree with Maneera, it doesn't seem like a color you wear? And white doesn't seem great either, for exactly the reason you described, unless you wore it with a scarf?

But for me, I'd choose olive, no question.

I say hold off. I like both options but the fact that you are uncertain means that neither is quite right. There will always be a new piece on the horizon

I love the sweater so it really doesn't matter what colour it is. I find olive to be a very versatile colour but I wear a lot of olive. Olive looks great with black and white IMHO.

I bought a cropped olive Sarah Pacini sweater last winter in Montreal so I am going to watch your WIWs to copy.

I think it's the layering and column of color that looks so wonderful in the EF photo.
If you get the olive sweater, you won't have that column look anymore.
