Would this top flatter a pear?

I'm considering making an order from Woolovers as I need to replace some basic cardigans. While on the website, I found a gorgeous sweater but I'm unsure whether to order it.

Do you have any thoughts about whether this would be flattering for a pear? I'm thinking that maybe the curved hemline will be more flattering for me than a more typical tunic with a straight hem. It looks like I have to pay shipping back to the UK (I live in the US) if I want to return it, so there is risk involved in ordering it. Any other thoughts about whether this would be worth ordering are also welcome!

Oh, I love it! Specially pepper and burgundy color (for me). I think it is a flattering cut, I'm the opposite of you, I have big boobs and slim hips and I think this would be very flattering on me because is shapely and loose at the same time. Im thinking of buying one too!

I think it could be flattering in a pear too because is not cutting your top and bottom drastically in two, but has a fluid siluette instead and can disguise saddlebags if you have them. Although is going to give you a long torso appearance. I don't know how drastic is your pear shape but If you have short legs, you can think of ways of balancing that out, like wearing a shorter vest, a belt, or dark leggings, shoes with a bit of heel, etc.

The blonde model looks like a pear to me and she looks great.

I say you go for it!

Very pretty!

Even though I have a bust and square shoulders, I verge on pear-ish and I tend to try to play down my hips and saddlebags.

I find tops like this either work brilliantly or they emphasize the very area I'm trying to downplay, and it all depends on fit, drape and length. I'm short-waisted, so this length would be tricky. I love a curved hemline but tend to stick with shorter lengths and/or go for a very drapey fabric. I'm a little worried this might flare out too much, but it might just be the way they photographed the top.

There's really only one way to find out!

Mimi-- I have a short torso, so if this makes my torso look longer, all the better! And I do have saddlebags which I would be super happy to disguise.

Janet-- I think you may be right about this either working brilliantly or emphasizing the very area I'm trying to downplay.

Looks like return shipping could cost me $25 or so if I decide to return, so I'm still waffling.

I tend to agree with Janet. I'm long-waisted with short legs and carry my weight in my thighs. If the sweater were a bit shorter in front, I would be less concerned. Maybe you can contact them for measurements?

DonnaF-- Thanks for your thoughts! I'm exactly the opposite-- long legs and short torso. Some of the measurements are on the website, but not all.

I'm with Janet - sometimes that silhouette works for me, sometimes it fails utterly, and I suspect it's all about length and proportion.

Wow, very interesting that a number of us have the same experience - mixed. Sometimes these work and sometimes not. I'm 5'5" tall, shorter waisted, longer legged, with prominent thighs (not the lovely gradual curve from waist to hip to thigh - I go in after the hip, back out to the thigh... thigh bumps, I like to call them). Truth be told, I think I have only one top similar to this (pic below) and it is different in that the hem goes slightly back up on the edges. Not sure if that makes a difference. But if it helps, this top is 30" long in the middle (measured from the back of the neck to the hem) and 35" at the longest side points (from the shoulders). I find this top to be quite flattering with skinny jeans, although not as good with leggings (it does cover the crotch but still isn't too flattering on my legs).

I am a pear and really find tops cut like this to be flattering. The coverage of a tunic, but the hemline prevents a horizontal line at my widest part. Return shipping like that certainly would give me pause, though!
