I've been thinking about and stalking skirted leggings lately. Now I don't even recall what put the idea in my head that I could use them. But I bought the Eileen Fisher ones on sale at Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago (actually ordered them in two sizes), and they finally arrived. I picked the size I liked better but hadn't decided whether to keep them, so I looked online for other options and found a cool-looking style at AllSaints (the Saffi, with a twisted skirt). Not available in my size. But another style (the Raffi, with a short, plain skirt) was, so I went to the store to try them on. Big mistake! Or serendipity! Depending on your viewpoint. . . . Because I came home with the Raffi skirted leggings (returned the two pair of Eileen Fisher to Nordstrom), AND also with a leather jacket!?! Of course, right?

I realize that I've been casually checking out leather moto jackets for a while now. I saw them everywhere in Paris last spring. And during SSIF (Seattle Shoptember Inge Fest), I admired the leather jackets on several fabbers from near and far who participated. Everyone wore them with such panache, and the weather was just perfect for a leather jacket as topper. I thought, I could use one of those! And then Angie mentioned on one of my WIWs recently that a moto jacket could look nice with the outfit I was wearing, as an indoor-outdoor topper. Yes, it certainly could, I thought. I knew if I were ever to get a leather moto jacket, I would prefer that it not be black. And not white or cream. So I've had my eye out. And in AllSaints, of all places, the store that features more black than you'd find at an undertakers' convention, I saw some moto jackets in gorgeous muted colors--an indeterminate dark gray ("anthracite"), a moody denim blue ("petrol"), and a cool, muted olive ("khaki"). The latter is the one I chose. I really wasn't out to buy a leather jacket today, especially at a price that is more than I've ever spent on a single item of clothing. It's returnable, and the price is adjustable if it comes up lower on Black Friday. But it was just one of those things I thought I didn't want to get away. I'm justifying the purchase by calling it early Christmas, what will become my parents' gift to me, since they always give me a generous amount of money as a present.

What do you all think? Did I lose my mind somewhere between home and the parking garage? Or was I smart not to let the jacket potentially slip away?

I'm showing it here over what I was wearing, for a day off: blue sheer-yoke tee (Caslon); olive, mauve, and blue open-knit drapey cardigan (unknown, from Nordstrom a few years ago); olive skinny corduroys (Kut from the Kloth, Diana); pewter metallic suede high-tops (Paul Green).
