WIW: to check into a Garden with a baby

This is me dressed for work--a hotel review, requiring an overnight stay, so I brought my nursling along as extra baggage.

Checked in, ordered room service and managed a foreshortened self-portrait. Wearing maternity boyfriend jeans from Mothercare (they adjust back to pre-pregnancy waistline, or rather, hipline), button-front silk-blend kaftan top (nursing- and postpartum tummy-friendly) and Naturalizer ballet flats.

(I love the fact that you are committed to breastfeed your little one. Well done! FWIW, my Pilates instructor mentioned this morning that she used a post pregnancy girdle and that her tummy went back to normal fast as a result of that. Sadly I didn't know that at the time.)

Sanet, I didn't try it but women in India bind the tummy flat for 40 days after delivery traditionally with saree fabric...old-fashioned functional fashion!

Ramya, this one's a Chanderi base from a Jaipur brand called Soma. Not sure if you are familiar with it but they are great. A less expensive version of Anokhi, with amazing block-printed mulmuls and the best-fitting ready made saree blouses I have found.

Mochi, I will treasure that compliment. I wish I could dress like this 95% of the time myself.

Joy, yes, it can be a bit of a challenge. Though his current stranger danger mode requires even more accommodations. Like Shannon notes, I have been lucky so far.

Shannon, they do, don't they? I usually bookend with black sandals, but today I needed my bronze flats for versatility though I was a tad iffy...so glad you think it works as you have a keen eye for proportions and details.

Angie, thank you! I hadn't thought of this as polished and really that was a bit of a compromise I thought I was making. But if you see polished, that makes me feel much, much better.

You look great! I think the top and BJ jeans look good together - relaxed and stylish. I found dressing for postpartum and nursing difficult. I'm not particularly looking forward to that after this baby (#3) is born. Hopefully I can manage to look as good as you do in this outfit.

ohhh sweet baby love! He's beyond adorable! I didn't have to take my babes with me to work, so I was able to be very casual. Tank tops with a button-down shirt as a topper were my best, best, bestest friends while I was nursing. That top looks so flowy and comfy. Is it made for nursing or just versatile enough to manage it?

As an aside, JennyK, I can't make buttondowns work at all unless I unbutton them all the way. Otherwise, they get totally drenched. Tips?

Suz, not incognito to all the staff, no---not usually. Paid and anonymous reviews are done by very very few publications, as pockets are apparently not deep enough. But yeah, this particular hotel is a business hotel and I think some of the staff are as bemused to see a baby as the school was to see Mary's lamb! Glad I am succeeding a little better at dressing to a plan.

Jeanie, you might look at Anokhi and Fabindia. Both retail in the US and online stores ship to/in the US. won't be the exact thing but both use similar fabrics pretty often as well as those mother-of-pearl buttons.
