(Or: "How I Wore My LBD to Lab")

I have a banquet/cocktails event to go to tonight (something for a lawyers' group that J. is a part of). The dress code (as conveyed by a guy, so not very helpful) is "cocktail-y business or business-y cocktail". Anyway, I figured my more sedate LBD (as opposed to my arty, drapy Allsaints one) would be a good bet paired with my Bellatrix jacket. The problem is that I'm planning on going directly from lab, on the subway to boot. I didn't want to bother with changing my entire outfit in the bathroom at work, so I had to come up with a way to wear the LBD to lab without looking totally inappropriate. I decided to dress it down with my handknit hoodie and flat oxfords, and then change into my Bellatrix jacket and heeled booties for the event. I am using my black tooled leather bag for both lab and banquet since I needed a bag big enough to hold all the stuff I take to work (the extra shoes and jacket went in a tote bag that I will leave at work tonight). What do you think? Did I succeed in making the LBD lab-appropriate?

Oh, and I am not wearing it in the photo, but I will also put on some lipstick and mascara before I go to the event tonight.
