DD the younger leaves Tuesday for 3 months of WOOFing in Oahu, so we are headed out for a Bon Voyage dinner with friends.

Thanks, Ummlila, for the jeans-and-pumps inspiration. It's a little cool this evening and perfect for debuting the Okalas.
Looking for honest feedback on this old JCrew Factory jacket. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I feel a bit meh. Does it work? Should it go? Doesn't feel very modern and it is not at all fluid.

You and I are style twins, I swear. I have a very similar jacket, also from J Crew, hanging in my closet , and with which I have that same love/hate relationship. But I never wear it because I feel exactly like you do. Meh. We should never feel meh, should we? So, you know what I'm saying?..

That said, it looks great and fits well, but style-wise, I agree with you about it not being current. I think you just made me decide what do to with mine. But then....I go on this "it will always be a Chanel-like classic piece blah blah blah" and the circle continues.

The jacket is a classic and the trendy shoes and jeans make it very current. however, it it makes you feel meh, I would let it go.

Wow. I think you look absolutely amazing! And I love the jacket on you. With the jeans and the current shoes, it feels fab to me, not meh. The textural variation picks up the fading in the jeans and the highlights in your hair.

That said, the most important thing is how you feel, and if you are feeling low about it, why keep it around? Especially when BJ1111 (or I) would be happy to relieve you of this burden....

I know how you feel - I have items that make me feel "meh" but then I'll talk myself into keeping them around for another season "just in case." I think it looks good, especially with those jeans, but I'm not loving it as much as some of the other items in your wardrobe.

I think you look fab but I understand the meh feeling. Maybe it's because the jacket is so classic and you like a little edge? How about pairing it with shorts and a fluid tee? That would be a little unexpected and add some edge to the classic vibe. Just thinking out loud here...

I think that you look so wonderful in this! The whole outfit is beautifully put together, and the pumps and jeans are so great. I've been sitting here trying to put a finger on what it is about the jacket... It fits you really well and is totally flattering in all of the best ways, and looks stylish and current to me in this outfit, but I feel completely ambivalent about it. I like everything JayS said - maybe mixing it up in an unexpected and less classic way would make it feel better to you? I am also wondering if there was a time when you absolutely loved it? If so, then I think you could hold on to it to pull out again when you get tired of some of the trends that are going on now, and you would love it again. If you have never loved it, but always just liked it and wanted to make it work, then I would pass it along. This is the type of jacket that I have always thought I should love, but for some unidentifiable reason, I just... don't. Maybe it is the same for you? What may make it most confusing is that it truly does look good.

You look fabulous. The jacket does seem a little "frilly" for your style persona though, so I get why you felt a little less than yourself in this combination. Let it go and find one with angular drape. xo

Thanks everyone for the incredibly helpful feedback. I think Sarah the White absolutely put her finger on it: it's hard to let it go because it actually works so well, outfit-wise. It fits me like a glove and can pull an outfit together. But I don't think that is reason enough to keep it.

I do love a classic piece, but as Angie said, it's a little frilly for me, and I think I am lured by what Lisa mentioned: the Chanel-esque quality. All of that -- frill, firm structure, Chanel .... none of that is really me. And in a weird way, I think it ages my hair -- does that make any sense? DH said to me at dinner: "Mom, you look so posh in that jacket!" And then laughed. She, too, knows it's not me.

I'm on the brink of letting this jacket go. I will message bj1111 and Suz when I get there.

Love the shoes. The jacket is pretty, but I think you can find one that you adore and suits you better.

Not so "meh" to me as I have similar jacket that I have had trouble styling. Can you share where your grey top is from? Something in this style might work for me and my jacket!

I cannot speak to the jacket - I see what everyone and you sees - totally up to you - it really works here but I do see it's a bit frilly for your style.

However, I am absolutely loving those shoes with the jeans/top! Outstanding! You really look amazing. What is WOOFing?

I had a similar jacket and felt the same way!
The casual vibe with the paler colour and texture appeals and looks good- I would hold onto until you find a replacement?

Jackie and LynD: It stands for Worldwide Opportunies on Organic Farms -- so I guess it's really WWOOFing. Simply, she is volunteering on two organic farms over the next three months in exchange for room and board -- 6 weeks at each. She will be doing whatever needs to be done at the farm, which could include weeding, planting, harvesting, mulching, even butchering. It will be an interesting time for her. She's 19 and is taking a semester off from school to do this. She's truly an adventurer and an explorer at heart (she went to Tanzania alone at 16), and she really wanted some time on her own before college got too serious. I love her spirit.

I looked at the photo first (before reading your post) and said to myself - "Wow, I love this jacket with the top and jeans and pumps". But of course, if it does not feel right to you, maybe it is time for the jacket to go - I just thought it looked quite fab.

Sounds like you DD is going to have a great time - very exciting (and probably lots of hard work, too).

You look Parisian chic in this outfit, Viva. I think the jacket looks terrific on you and the way you've styled it is very current. You may be forgiven for giving up a jacket that fits and looks good, though, if it no longer feels like your style. I have a classic red blazer hanging in my closet that is not me, either. Classic, yes, and probably still wearable, but I won't wear it. I think I'm almost at the point of being able to pass it on so someone else can wear it.
