WIW 3/23/12 - black and blue all over - and NY and Co K/R

#1 is WIW today - blue shirt from Express with Martin skinnies and Frenchi tuxedo jacket. Looks a bit harsh, with the sharp contrast of blue and black, but I generally like the combo of skinny pants with the voluminous blouse. What do you think?

I also stopped by the mall to return a few items (including Loft chevron flippy skirt) and noticed that the NY and Co store is closing so everything was 60% off (their store in another mall in the area will still be open). I picked up two jackets and a pencil skirt with a fun dotty pattern (#2). The skirt is fun, although I may have to sew closed the slit in the back, at least partially, to make it work-appropriate (the slit is hard to see but it is at least 4-5" high).

I think the soul-sucking beige jacket (shown in #2 in the middle and in #4) needs to go back.

I like the white jacket (#3) but it is a linen blend so it looks like it will get wrinkled quite quickly. Would be a nice lightweight summer layer, though, and at $30, it's inexpensive.

I love #1, but agree that it's a little bit harsh. I think if you add a little white or cream that would soften it up nicely (like some pearls, a white watch, etc). GREAT pencil skirt, it looks fab on you! I like the white jacket, not sure on the beige one.

I have your coloring and like to wear the same colors you've pictured here. I'm always creating outfits like #1 and not knowing what to do next--Aida, I'll try your ideas.

I agree the beige may not be your color.

As for the white, I bought a white linen blazer about a year ago and I've worn it about twice. It never feels right. It does crumple. I say go with your gut on this. If you're feeling reservations, don't get it, because you might end up like me with an orphan!

The polka dot skirt is amazing on you. I thought I didn't do polka dots but this weekend I discovered that I like little ones!

That's a FABULOUS skirt! Not sure about the beige jacket either, as not seeing much wrong with it when you add a colourful top. But the white is FAB on you.

Love that pencil skirt - beautiful fit and length. Adore the white linen jacket - I love linen even though it wrinkles but it's such a beautiful summer fabric. I'm afraid I find the beige to be not a great colour on you and fit is a little off. I say pass on this one. I love LOVE the outfit with the pencil skirt, red top and white jacket!

Ditto what Aida said! Beige look sort of blah. Not actually terrible but doesn't contribute anything. I love your pattern mixing with that cute skirt and top and the white jacket looks terrific with it!

Can you scrunch up the sleeves on the black/blue outfit to break up the darkness? Love that blue on you! Great outfit!

Great WIW, but I love the patterns in the next picture! Keep the skirt and the white linen blazer! At that price, if it only lasts a year or two it's no big deal. I bet you wear it at LEAST thirty times! I vote return on the SSB jacket. The white blazer will fill any hole that it would have filled. Good haul on the story closing sale!

I love the skirt! Don't sew the slit closed, that will make it hard to walk fast in. And I think it's unnecessary - a five-inch slit on a knee-length skirt is totally work appropriate.
