WIW 2/28: color, but not too much

Y'all are really helping me tame my too-much-going-on tendencies!

This morning, I put on outfit #1 and felt really, really, really happy. Then I looked in the mirror and found it costume-y and took off the tights. Voila: outfit #2.

It's good that I did take them off, since I ended up going barefoot in the streets a few times to deal with the 4 inches of water on my block!

In other musings, this is the boxiest blouse that I own, and I only wear it tucked in. I really, really, really don't like waistless or boxy looks on me.

Blouse: Target, but thrifted
Skirt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Clarks

Good call on leaving the Peter Pan tights at home!

I agree with Angie that your awesome haircut makes any outfit just that much more awesome!!

My new mission is to make the tights work with SOMETHING - but Peter Pan tights might be an apt descriptor.

Yeah, I tried out some green tights last year. I think my best look was with a almost-matching or tonal dress and tall brown boots, so that the tights were a minor, complementary element. Boots and a neutral outfit might work as well. With ballet flats they are going to tend costume for sure - although I did love the Obama girls' tonal coat/tights/flats look at the inauguration, I believe it was. But they are of course girls
I feel like textured/patterned coloured tights are actually easier to wear because they don't have the costume association!

i really like #2.
glad you are finally getting rain, but sorry that it seems to be causing day to day issues, like flooding etc.

Like it best without tights, too! Angie says that skin reads as "structure" in an outfit, and I see that here.

Try the tights with all of another color -- brown or black, perhaps. Then just add an accessory to bring out the tights- scarf or statement necklace.

It looks great! I can't wait for it to warm up so I can start leaving my tights at home.

The only thing I would add would be a necklace or watch, but that's a very minor thing.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll have to try the tights with some neutrals (and my brown boots), or with something closer to the color of the tights on the bottom.

@kkards: We need the rain enough that I'm okay with the flooding. We got off very easy in my neighborhood, though - there was a lot of water in the streets but there's no real damage.

@K: My watch is hiding underneath the sleeves. What kind of necklace do you think would look good? Everything I tried on looked too big or too small. I also couldn't figure out earrings so I eventually just went without.

Good choice of leaving the Kermit hose out (I have teal ones and always thought of them as Kermit).

Because you have dark hair you can easily wear black hose and it would look great too.

I love 2! Simple but interesting. The top tucked into the skirt creates nice proportions.
