WI didn't W - having fun with Chanel stripes

Well, I had a go! I bought a striped tee from Zara and used the only flat shoes that came close (they are shockingly awful - luckily you can't see from the pics. Really granny shoes I bought when I was having problems with my feet). Was given this hat by DH for Christmas.

DH said that this is unflattering from behind with the short jacket combined with the top/jeans, and it's a silhouette that I'm not naturally comfortable with - the top rides up in an unflattering way. I tried it as a bit of fun and didn't wear it.

BUT, could I pull this off with a lower contrast striped tee? (and of course some decent ballet flats). This is the striped top from Zara - what about the black colourway? (the one with fine black/camel strips?)

You are SO CUTE, I can't stand it, Polly. Just look at that hat!! Swap out the skinnies for bootcut jeans and a pair of pumps - and you're in business.

I like the striped top together with the cropped jacket, I don't see how it's unflattering. The jacket is awesome! My only hesitation about this outfit is the rather formal hat with the informal skinny jeans... maybe a skirt when wearing the hat or no hat when wearing the jeans? I think this would look cute with a skirt and pumps and hat!

Ah Angie, I see. I'll try but my only boot cuts hemmed for flats are less than flattering so might have to sit this one out but it was SO much fun trying. Oh, hang on, this is one thing I've never worked out. Are pumps ballet flats only or can they be what I call court shoes? (I'm not sure of my terminology in the UK let alone the US!)

Polly, pumps are heeled ballet flats - what you would call court shoes. You have bootcut jeans hemmed for heels don't you? Also, you could just wear boots over the skinnies!

You have a great eye, and this "having fun" is really putting you on to something! The combination is really perfect - maybe just a little tweaking to make it special to you. What about tucking in the striped top - do you like/have you tried it that way? It would make the line of jacket/pants more streamlined, yet showcase the stripes, which I *love*.

... and The Hat! It is absolutely wonderful, and your husband has great taste and a sense of fun. You have the face I associate with cloches - pretty, fair, and sweet. You should wear it often - dress it up, dress it down!

My goodness, love that hat on you! You look great in the striped T and shorter jacket. I like the idea to add a tall black boot or swap out the jeans for a bootcut with a heel. or maybe a pencil skirt?

Thank you all. Angie that finally clears up my pumps confusion. I think ballet flats are often called pumps in the UK. I thought that ballet flats were an essential part of the look but as soon as I get away from that there are so many more possibilities for balancing it all at.
