"Why are you dressed up ?" : the answer, finally

Greg's request to write about what Angie means to me led me to a response to people who insinuate ( or straight out say) we are overdressed. From now on, I will say this to them :

"I get dressed every day. I might as well do it joyfully and fully present. It feeds my soul. What feeds your soul ? "

It is funny, I specifically thought of you and Legacy of Pearl when this came to me ( not the jackass part, but the joy part. )

Becky, yes, all joking aside, I want it to be thought provoking and compassionate. The other person may be unhappy...and it takes the focus off vanity, which it isn't about.

My favorite answer to this, especially at work, is to say "I have a job interview".
Then I either change subject or leave before they have a chance to ask further. Works every time lol.

LOL at the "job interview" answer...I run a home daycare, that would get the daycare parents in a tizzy! LOL (And they do comment on my clothing but always in a positive light.)

These are great responses, I usually say, because it's fun to the person questioning. That always makes them pause.

My real life answers, depending on the person and her attitude, are usually along the lines of - "I feel more comfortable like this." and "I've been dressing this way for so long, I wouldn't know how to do it any other way." and "Oh, really? *I* don't think so..." then look them up and down. :-O

Fortunately for my blood pressure, I don't come across people like this very often.

I wish I'd read this BEFORE I did the school run this morning because I got the "where are you off to/you're all dressed up" type comments... All I replied was that I was just doing errands in town, and that I liked dressing up!
