Hi everyone! Mostly newbie, though I've trampled on this wonderful forum a couple times when looking for reviews on certain items.

Engineer, who, up until 3 years ago had maybe only 5/7 pairs of shoes total, owning jeans that didn't fit well and wasn't the greatest quality, and a whole bunch of t-shirts. A breakup and a desire to dress better after following petite blogs changed my spending and dressing style, but I find it too easy to slide back into t-shirt-jeans land due to the very casual environment of my work place.

I'm still trying to discover my style, so I'm not sure quite what it is. I do love classic pieces, and my favorite piece is still a pair of jeans. I'm petite with not much shape at all. I've branched out a lot in the past few years, but I'm still not positive on what kind of clothes work for me and what don't, and am clueless as to how some things work together - but, I'm learning. This forum seems so warm and welcoming and knowledgeable =) Can't wait to start participating with all you wonderful members!!

Hi, I'm Rose (34). I have always been interested in fashion, but I found myself in a rut since hitting my thirties and staying home with my kids. I wore black, grey, jeans, & sneakers daily for a couple of years. I am just now incorporating colors, patterns, & dresses back into my life. I stumbled across this site and I find it inspiring. I desperately need motivation for my style evolution.

I've just signed up for a bit of advice!
I'm an older lady (nearly an OAP, for those who know what that is) but have always remained interested in clothes, shoes and looking nice.
Recently I have developed a bad foot (bunion) and cannot bear to wear anything but flat shoes! I am having an operation next year, but even after that I don't expect to be able to get back into any of my 30+ pairs of high heels.
At first I was 'gutted' about this, but am gradually coming to terms with the situation. However, has anyone any advice they can give me about what to wear with flat shoes? All my clothes look terrible with lace-ups!

Hi all,

I just joined after reading the YLF blog and pinterest page for a few weeks. I am 38 and realizing I can't wear what I did even 5 or 10 years ago. Also, I am about to finish graduate school and go back on the job market wearing office type clothes rather than student clothes. I hope to pick up styling ideas here as I figure out what I want my styling to say about me.

At this point, I love 1930s/40s styled dresses with oxford shoes, but tend to dress more in jeans and T-shirts. I am not sure exactly how to incorporate romantic, feminine styling into work clothes - I am not sure if it is even possible or appropriate. So I guess I am searching mostly for my professional style here.

Hi all!
I'm Heidi, I'm from the UK and in my early 20s. I can't remember how I came across this site, but I much prefer it to ones aimed specifically to my age group as they give the feeling that you must only own things in fashion.
I`ve always been quite artsy and loudly dressed, as I had been working in arts publications since I was 18, all the way through uni and a little beyond. Recently I've become a civil servant, which means dressing more conservatively. I'm trying to incorporate more of myself into my professional wardrobe, as I feel it gives me more confidence than dressing like a clone.

Hey there! I'm Patti, from the suburbs of Chicago IL to the foothills of CO. I'm a musical performer, and have always enjoyed dressing up my alter ego for that. Therefore somewhat of a night owl. Married 16 years, we happily chose no kids, tho we love OPs. I co-own & run a Heating company with the hubs. What is wonderful necessary service, to give warmth & comfort to our customers. I LOVE it! Hubby is a fishing maniac, and we live near a reservoir, so he can boat fish in summer, ice fish in winter. We enjoy camping together, & my other hobby is being a mew-sician. I'm a singer songwriter who plays guitar, keys & now bass. I'm 53, 5'5" rectangular boy shape, a bit curvier these days. In process of losing weight gained since quit smoking 6 yrs ago. I have a short waist & short legs, and recently began altering all my shorter bottoms to the much more flattering knee or just above the knee length. My grandma & mom were both into fashion and always looked lovely to me. I inherited a taste for it. Learned early on that I can stay on budget, build a killer wardrobe mixing thrift scores with nicer retail pieces. My style has evolved over the years, but has always been Casual & Colorful, Simple & Classic. I enjoy trying new trends, adopting the good ones. Recent loves are Ruched, Sheer, Lace, Leather or Stud accented Tops; Tunics & other Re-70's items, been around long enough to do those twice; Just got my first pair of blue jean skinnies! I wear dresses only on special occasions: 1) non-practicable on dirt roads in the mtns; 2) I'm not such a girlygirl; jeans & pants & tops suit my nature as well as my lifestyle. <3s: Finding new Eye Candy Colors to wear; Earrings!; Layering blouses over tees & camis, sweaters & vests over blouses. My best colors are clear & mostly cool. Other ladies in my very rural area are surprisingly sophisticated & engagingly unique in their fashion styles. My mom is gone and my bffs far away, so I jumped at YLF, for the opportunity to compare notes, to learn & share fashion sense, creativity & fun with other gals. Looking forward to learning more about you all. Thanks Angie for creating a unique & fun atmosphere!

Hi,
My name is Jo and I'm a 48 yo British expat living in Greece. My husband and I run our own business and so I work from home. That's my biggest challenge nowdays, when you're at home all day you really miss those opportunities to dress up.

I've always loved fashion and I did consider studying fashion when I left school but I became a engineer instead. When I was younger my style was very edgy, post punk, it's mellowed a lot since then. My style now is very influenced by the climate now, for 6 months of the year it's hard to wear many clothes at all so it's a real challenge being stylish and a lot depends on your accessories. I love fab footwear and recently I've being rediscovering a love for jewellery but simple, quite masculine pieces.

I have a rectangular body shape with a short waist, I'm 5'3 but I don't wear petite clothing because I have long legs. I live in a very rural area and I have to do almost all of my shopping online which is a challenge but I'm lucky in that my body is reasonably easy to fit and I've maintained the same weight for the last 28 years so I have a lot of 'old' clothes that still fit me fine. I recently started to sew again so this year I want to move towards making almost all my clothes and just buying underwear, shoes, bags and accessories.

I've been reading Angie's blog for the last year and I thought it was about time I joined the forum and started to participate in this wonderful community.

Hello, I'm Corina and I am 53 years old. I recently moved from a big town to the suburbs with my husband, where we have a nice home with a large gatden. i am retired now, so I have to change my wardrobe to a more simpler and sportish one! So, I read a lot here, trying to find my style and my way of dressing for the new status! Thank you all for writing, hope I will blend in here.

Hi all, I'm Lisa.

I'm in my 50s, trim and tall. I work alongside 20-something techies in the
Bay Area so when it comes to fashion I want to stay current and
comfortable with some style gravitas.

My favorite accessory right now is my Kate Mawson scarf - similar to this one: http://www.katiemawson.com/sca.....rol-detail

FWIW, I have chemical sensitivity
(no fragrances or fumes for me), so I buy online, in consignment stores and everything I buy I need to be able
to toss in the wash to remove "new clothes smell." That doesn't stop me
from working it!

I'm here for inspiration, and help planning a good wardrobe so I'll
have the confidence to shop. I'm one of these women with a closet full
of clothes and very few outfits. I'll buy a nice pair of pants and they
will just hang there. So I hestiate to buy "quality" things. I want go-to outfits for every occasion. My fantasy is to clear
out 80% of my closet and buy high quality coordinating
pieces (and build from there!)

Looking forward to learning from all of you.

Hello All,
I'm Dee, been a member here for quite a while reading Angie's blog before the forums were around. I'm a mom on the go with a part time job working In the health and wellness field (a place I could truly wear yoga pants but I don't!)
Just thought I would come out from behind the curtain, so to speak.

Hi everyone,
I too have been reading Angie's blog for some time and have finally joined the forums. I'm an Australian ex-pat living in Japan with my husband and our two small kids. I've always been interested in style, but I've never been good at dressing causally and have been struggling style-wise since becoming a SAHM a few years ago. I'm looking forward to be a part of this community

Hi all,

I've been reading Angie's blog for a few years and decided to join the forums because I love seeing how other women put outfits together!

I'm in my mid-thirties, live in Northern California, Summer palette with busty/vase-shaped figure. I'm interested in refining my wardrobe to have a more cohesive style and color palette. I wore a lot of vintage/punk styles when I was in my teens and twenties but lately I have had a hard time making those preferences work in a way that seems professional and age-appropriate. After bouncing through a few careers and entering a new field, I'm especially interested in office-appropriate and business casual style.

I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone on this forum!

Hi

I am from NZ, in my early 40s, with two sons aged 9 and 11.

I work from home part time for a family business, also do some voluntary work for our school, and help out at athletics.

I love clothes but don't strictly follow the latest trends, but have a horror of anything too "mumsy". I am tallish (173cm or 5 ft 8"), with a medium hourglass type figure. I look great in fitted dresses, maxi dresses, pencil skirts, capri pants, the right jeans and can look pretty average in tunics, shorts and too clingy a top. I struggle with shirts and loved the hourglass thread. As I have aged my legs have thickened - while I am fit and toned I no longer like to show them off as my best feature but will still wear a swimsuit or shorts during summer!!

The forum looks so fun and supportive, I look forward to contributing.

Hi all, I'm new too, though I have been reading Angie's wonderful blog and lurking on the forum on and off for quite some time. I remember I found the website googling "how to wear button down shirts". I was breast feeding my son, and he is turning four in a couple of weeks! My name is Alessia, I will be 39 at some point in 2013, I am from Italy, I have two kids (daughter is 21 months old), I am an entertainment webjournalist and - guess what - a bit of a fashion spaz. I have wanted to sign up for a while but I thought I wouldn't find the time to participate. Well, nothing has changed, I have a busy life but I want in! This is the loveliest, nicest, friendliest community I have ever stumbled upon. Glad to be finally saying hello!

Hi there!
I'm Pat. Brand new on YLF this evening! Found the site in December when searching for comments and reviews on AllSaints' Drina dress; just broke down and ordered one in Charcoal yesterday. I love fashion and shopping. I am aware of trends but also keenly aware of when to stay away....sometimes because I wore it the first time around lol. Some of my earliest memories involve fashion! Re. Drina, I tried on a US 6...too clingy...& 10 (too roomy) at local AllSaints but my size (UK 12/US8) was not in stock there. More info in my profile...I'm coming to terms with being out of the work (corporate) world due to a vestibular disorder. It's been several years and I still instinctively want to hand over a business card when meeting someone new. I also still have most of my suits.... I need to crystallize my new identity. I have trouble finding dresses that fit and flatter because I typically wear a size 8 pant or skirt and a 12 or 14 top. I work at keeping fit and healthy but do not deny myself "soul foods" like chocolate and good wine I have been with my husband 25 years this month and we've been married almost 24 years. My lovely step-daughter is due to give birth to our first grandchild in about 3 weeks. I am looking forward to spending some time on YLF. I've never posted a photo on the internet but I know I'll get there.

Hi All

I am Katy - brand new to the Forum (and more of a lurker by nature!). I live in South Australia and have been obsessed by style blogs over the summer. I am in my 40s, have always wanted to be like that stylish woman at meetings and in the street who always catches my eye, but haven't ever known where to start. I am committed to finding a capsule wardrobe that works for me this year, as I am about to step up into a more senior role and realise that investment pieces are part of my professional profile.

As to my "style" - I spent most of my life as a classic hourglass, with large breasts, small waist and generous hips. Extra weight always heads to my belly, though, and since it takes a lot of work to keep the weight down, and I recently married a great cook, I have reconciled myself to being an apple. I am fond of classic styles, have always admired those wonderful 'arty' dressers, but just don't feel myself in anything too fancy.

I am looking forward to learning more from everyone here....

Hi I'm Kristie, I'm new to the forum and I'm so glad I found it. I'm a petite gal in my mid 40's and living in the South!! I'm really trying to find my style and look more put together. I really looking forward to learning great things from everyone in the community!!

Hi every one,
Just found YLF today and love the opportunities this is offering. Born in the sixties in Holland and currently living in Denmark, a very fashionable country but mainly focussed on black, black and more black. OK, for colour they throw in some grey, beige and some white. As a colour loving person it is hard for me to shop here. Thank god for the internet! But shopping on the web can be a challenge when it comes to sizes. I am a 'clear' according to the Colour me Beautiful' consultant. I am 5,7", very slim and have normal leg lenght but a longer torso with equally long arms. The shoulders are wide and the hips slim. All in all happy but challenged when it comes to shopping for tops, jackets, coats etc. as my shoulders and waist are relatively 2 sizes bigger than my hips and breasts. So I am relying on good websites that give product measurements or bloggers who give insight and since today.....on you guys at YLF!

Hello all. I have been on site a couple of months. I am 60+ , 5'8" with a full life. I love to workout and eat health. I like to look as vibrant as I feel. I mostly like casual chic, modern classic clothes (for work). My fav color is turquoise. My fav outfit is very dark navy Jeans, fitted tee and blazer. I rarely am without lipstick or earrings. I like to shop boutiques. I dislike distressed denim. My grandma would be horrified if she thought I paid good money for jeans with holes in them. I look forward to reading other blogs.

Hello!
I'm mid-twenties, long long lonnnnng time lurker of YLF. I discovered the blog way back when I found out that certain styles work better for broad shoulders and wider hips. I have a weakness for premium denim, leather jackets, comfortable high heels, and leather bags.

Hi people of ylf,
I'm Alice, almost 40, working in IT (not a very stylish work environment). I've been a big-city dweller for about 15 years, in Europe.
I'm having trouble evolving my style and feel alienated by fashion magazines. YLF has been a great place to find practical suggestions and news about trends. I enjoy Angie's posts as well the forum members', the variety in styles and body shapes is great. I'm trying to figure out where I want my style to go, but have a love-hate relationship with fashion. In some ways I'd like to figure out this fashion thing so I can stop wasting time getting dressed in the morning or buying clothes and get on with "more important" things. But fashion is also a creative outlet for me at times.

Hello !
I am new to YLF. I have lurked on the site a couple of times. There is some great information here !
I am 54 years old. Mother of four, ages 13, 16, 24 and 28. I am in the work force, as an Engineer - my work wear in not formal due to a factory type environment.
Last year made a transition back to my natural hair color. Dealing with that I had a color analysis and now have started adding items to my closet and throwing MANY away ! I am interested in updating my look and have purchased some makeup to help add color. I am fairly slim, 5'7" but can be top heavy.
I am interested in body typing to some extent but am still trying to understand the different systems - such as Kibbe, DYT etc.. to see if any would be useful to me.
I would be thrilled to chime in occaisionally !

hi everyone, i'm mara, i'm 40 years old, been reading YLF for a while but decided to join this community. I've never been fashionable but I love to read about fashion. I've been through a lot of tough times lately, and to me fashion represents hope that tomorrow can be better, especially with a can do attitude.
what I've noticed is that I can buy a nice piece of clothing and people will compliment me. ' I like your earrings or, I like the color of your hair, or that new blouse you're wearing". somehow I never get every element all together. I hope I am making sense! I posted my pictures on the forum(forgive the bra strap) and I look forward to comments.

Hi, I'm Laura. I found this blog because I was interested in figuring out how to find flattering clothes for my figure. I'm petite and busty, but not sure if I fit squarely in any of the body type categories listed. I generally follow the basic rules of monochrome colors, heels, and vertical lines...which is practically the only advice given for people like me (and it works...but is that all there is for people like me?). But I'd like to see what works for other people in my predicament, or if there is anything else.

My style is pretty basic, though I have a couple print tops. I would just love to find more options than jeans and a t-shirt, or slacks and a knit top. I like wearing dresses, but don't wear them very often because I get cold so easily (either outside in the winter, or inside in the summer when they jack up the A/C).

Looking forward to meeting you all and being a member!

Since I have always been a tad backward in my approach, why not do YLF the same way...I have been around for awhile, commenting here and there, like a one person Greek chorus...No introduction rather pop-up, here I am...Never actually being a part but rather a responder...
I am 50+...a mature dress-up girl who loves, classic, boho, RATE...
I live in the northern mid-west but am a GRITS at heart..
I love this board for its kind, wise, fashionable women...
Thank you Angie and Greg for providing such a wonderful, comfortable place...
Looking forward to more time with ya'll...

Just discovered this board and love it! I know what I like but I am learning about style way to late in life! I've always dressed for comfort and lack the confidence to try new trends. Hopefully I can slowly add new things after I learn what will enhance "me". Looking forward to reading and learning a lot from all the stylish ladies here!

I'm new to this site as well and am looking forward to reading more on the blog and getting some new ideas and inspiration on the forum.
I live in Colorado and am stay-at home. My style is definitely casual for the most part.
Looking forward to learning more about style.
Thank you

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this site and in need of all of your wisdom pretty badly. I'm 32, live in Tampa, FL, and work in technology. I'm not really sure what my style is or ever was. My current job forced me to switch from casual jeans and t-shirt to at least business casual attire but it didn't take long for me to slip back to the least effort version of that - black pants, black flats and the first top I grab from the closet. On weekends I still fall back to jeans and a random top. Is 'lazy' a style? I'd like to get to a point where my outfits are clean/tailored, still a bit feminine, slightly dressy but effortless, and comfortable... that too much to ask? Is that 'smart casual?' Until maybe 2 years ago I absolutely hated shopping so this is all a work in progress. I'm planning to go through my closet this weekend and pull out everything that doesn't make me feel great. Anyways, glad to meet everyone!

Hi...I'm Oggy (not my real name!) named after my son's favourite cartoon character.

I have shifted from having a great career as an architect to a stay at home mom. I love dressing up, so it's been a little tough to transition.

I love trends and like looking for new and innovative ways to wear everything. A certified shopaholic, I still never have anything to wear!

Hi
everyone! I’m Sofia, I’m from Sweden and in my mid-thirties and have a weakness
for dresses! Have way too many... Try to wear it as often as possible to work,
which is almost every day.

I’ve found the
site a couple of weeks ago and now I’m here daily!. I was struggling to figure out my
body shape (Pear or Hourglass) but after
having read about Angie’s definitions I now believe I’m a petite Hourglass with
Pear tendencies! Looking forward to learn more about what to wear (and not wear)!
