Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Which Color Boots?

It's me again. Sorry. I'm posting a lot tonight!

I am really inspired by Muequita's harness boots, and since a couple of the dresses I bought didn't work out (sad face), I am going to exchange them for some boots to go with the stuff I'm keeping. :)

I don't know which color to get though. It's a toss up between black and "brown rage":

I know you should match boots to your hair, but I'm blonde, and they don't make harness boots in "nude." :D I really like the brown ones, but would black match my stuff better? I don't usually wear a lot of soft colors, I wear bolder bright warm colors, or else black, white, or cream. Here is what I would like to wear them with (add a jacket, etc):

Amongst other things.

Thank you! :)

Ana, please do not apologize, I love when you post, especially since you have not been doing it much lately.

I'd vote for "brown rage" for sure. The color is lighter (closer to your hair), more interesting, and it has a lighter feel, especially for your climate, and you could wear them literally with everything.

I vote for brown too. I think Tanya has expressed reasons why better than I ever could!!

Ana, it is so much fun when you're posting!

Another vote for "brown rage" (what's up with that name??)

The other color that might be interesting is slate, for the same reasons that grey shoes seem more current right now than black, you know? But - if you wear a lot of warm colors, then brown, for sure.

Honestly, I don't have a preference. I agree that the brown would be more interesting but you can't really go wrong with black. I think the slate is an interesting option as well. (I guess I'm making things more difficult) I think you should just go with the color you actually prefer and not worry about matching with your wardrobe because both will work.

I prefer the brown rage to the black. The black boots are very "tough" looking and the brown rage ones are more "edgy" than "tough". Know what I mean?

Count me in for brown for all the reasons the others mention.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, it's very helpful. I'm terrible at making up my mind. Brendan votes for brown too. I think I will go with the brown. My only concern about the color was that it wouldn't go with a lot of things I wanted to wear them with, but I think you all have convinced me. One more question--what if I wanted to wear a leather/fake leather jacket with them? Something like this (just examples for color):

Would that be okay, or would it be too matching?

Thank you again everybody! :D

I think it would be OK to wear the jacket with the boots, especially if the color is not exactly the same, as long as you don't repeat the color elsewhere and where contrasting colors/textures between. I did wear my black leather jacket with tall black boots ( and tights) quite a few times.

I am going to go out on a limb and say plum! I am not a fan of brown, so I'm biased but I think plum goes with all the outfits you posted and is a richer, more complex color. You can wear it instead of both black and brown.
If not brown, then I say tan. Something for you to think about!:)

Ana, I think I like the brown rage for you! Did you read my suggestions I left for you on my thread? If not I'll repeat here. If you do not have wide feet (the toe box is kind of narrow on these boots) then make sure you size down a half size. I normally wear a 6 1/2 M and I got the size 6 for these. If your feet run wide then get your normal size. They are comfy to walk in once you break the leather at the front (eventhough the heel slips a lil in the back when you walk, but that is normal) and I think they might pass the 8 hr mark! I can't wait to see you in the boots and outfits!

My name is Kelly by the way, so you guys can call me that because I know my screen name is a bit complicated to spell!

Ana - wow! I can't wait to see how these boots look on you. Honestly, I agree that any of the colors will work with your wardrobe. I'm also in a warm climate and I am so happy when it gets cool enough to wear boots. I LOVE boots - any kind of boot. Those are really fab and funky and I think you'll have a lot of fun with them. Do you plan to wear them with jeans as well?

Ana, I am still thinking about your boots! If you thought black would go better with most of the outfits you had in mind, maybe you should try the slate because it's in the same color family?

I am so excited to see them on you! With that Milly dress in particular!

Thanks everyone! I looked and I couldn't find the slate color available in my size anywhere online. I am going to take Kelly's (Muequita) advice and go with a 7.5, since I usually wear a size 8. I went to Harold's (which is going out of business, sadly) to see if we could find anything for Brendan. He got a really nice blue cashmere abstract argyle sweater, and I found a cream and black coat! I had stopped looking for a coat, since I could only find a cream coat in wool (I wanted cotton because wool is too hot for Austin). And there one was! I'll post photos of the coat on another thread, but I had to choose between it and the boots. Since the boots are available more widely and pretty much all the time, I went with the coat. I think I will get the brown boots, and I will order them January 2nd. I'll post them as soon as they arrive. I'm so excited! Thanks for all the help, everybody!

Congrats on the coat! I'll be popping over to your other thread presently :)

Since you aren't buying immediately, thought I'd further confuse the issue by posting these biker boots by Frye:

Don't you love the chestnut color?

Posted 1 year ago

Laura, that color is gorgeous! Well, and now I've gone to the Frye website and found the slate, plus other fun colors in my size!

PLUS, they do apparently have "nude," hair-matching harness boots:

Sigh... :D

OK, now I vote for the sand. They are gorgeous Ana!

Posted 1 year ago

Sand? Are you kidding me? Awesome!

Love the plum too although it looks less traditional for harness boots.

Egads. You might have to get a pair in every flavor :)

Posted 1 year ago

I love the "sand" ones. I also love the slate and plum options. I definitely think all 3 of those are more interesting and better suited to your complexion and your clothes than black or brown. Can't wait to see which ones you end up with!

Posted 1 year ago

Ha ha, that's what I was thinking, Laura! :D I'll never be able to make up my mind. I ordered this top to go with my skirt! It was sold out when I ordered the skirt, but then they got one back in and it was my size. :)

I don't think any of the boots would really match it though (except black). I was just thinking black hose and booties, the way they have it in the photo (I'm such a cheater).

Posted 1 year ago

Ana, cheat away - you'll look fab doing it :)

Good to see that your online purchase stalking paid off in a fab top for your skirt!

I'm late, but hands down the sand if they are available, Ana. If they’re not - I vote chestnut (the brown) because they’re softer than the black. How say you?

Posted 1 year ago

The sand is fabulous for you. But now you've got me eying the purple or the olive for myself. This forum is dangerous! :)

Posted 1 year ago

Thank you! I will see if I can track down the sand. After I posted that color, I realized that they are out of stock in my size (7.5). I googled them, but not much luck (it's a popular color, I guess). If I can't find them, I would be equally happy with the brown rage (chestnut) color. It makes sense when you all say it's softer--that's something I have to be careful of, or else I tend to look very tough. :D

Thanks again! I'm so excited!

Tarzy--I forgot to add that I would probably wear them with skinnies as well, but I'll have to see how tight they are. They might be too tight to tuck into jeans.

Kristen and Bella, the plum is so pretty, I love that color. I want to get a neutral pair first, and see how they work out for me. Then I think I might want to pick up additional colors, and plum or olive would be on my list. If you get them Kristen, you HAVE to post them!

My vote is for the slate harness boot. so elegant!
