Where to find button-front shirts for petites?

A quick question for you all, especially those of you who live in Canada and who are petite: where do you buy your button-front shirts? I can often find boxy or flowy ones that work well, but it's hard to find a fitted one (like Angie is wearing in her blog post today) because I'm so shortwaisted that the waist on the shirt hits me in the wrong spot.

I'm hesitant to order something online because shipping to and from Canada is a pain.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to hit the shops next week if I get a chance.

Hi elisabeth,
Have you tried the James Perse panel front shirt? It is fitted and especially comfortable because it has knit materiel panels on the sides. It is expensive however at more than $100 US. I worked in a boutique for years and this shirt is a best seller despite the price. It runs small. I take a size 3 (sizes are 1-4) because I am broad shouldered. I wear S tops in LOFT. I am 5'3" 112 pounds and 32D. Hope this helps.

Hi, Elisabeth: Angie's shirt is from Banana Republic (I believe). That particular shirt is not available in petites in Canada. But they have other button front shirts that are. I find their petites fit me well. I own one of their sateen no -iron shirts and another shirt from last summer. I am about 5' 4" but short waisted. Around 115 with a small bust and narrow rib cage but relatively wide shoulders. (32/ 38.5) And I wear the 2 petite for a fitted style. Can get away with the 4 petite if the style is less fitted, but if it is meant to fit snug then that won't work for me. I haven't tried a 0 on, but I suspect it would be too tight. FWIW.

I can also sometimes wear x-small of their regular sizes. That seems shirt specific, and also depends on whether I will always roll or scrunch the sleeves. I do have a couple of their regular shirts in xs.

You can order and return free of charge, so these are worth trying, IMO. They are having a sale now.

You might also try J. Crew. I do not know the fit of theirs as well.

Another place to try might be Talbot's but I can't speak from any experience on that.

I am sorry I don't know where in Canada to get those but I live in US and get my fitted ones at BR. Size 0 is a perfect fit for "little me". JCrew is another choice but I found theirs to be a bit long in the lengh and sleeves on me

Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I will be going shopping this week (for the first time in ages) and it will be nice if I could fill that wardrobe hole.
