When are you too old to wear Betsey Johnson?

I have a lot of her dresses from the turn of the century. I'm 42 now. Datedness aside - and I tend to think of Betsey existing outside of time in some neon-flower-scattered wonderland - are they simply too mutton-dressed-as-lamb?

I have a Betsey Johnson dress that I bought for my brother's wedding and I love it. I plan to wear it for years to come. I'm 38. Now, little Zap has a tutu skirt amongst many other things. Would I wear that? No. I don't think it is about the brand, it is about the style of the garment.

I'm wearing my rhinestone studded robot necklace until the day I die, which I hope is a long time off, lol.

Seriously though, I think it depends on the piece. Some Betsey Johnson pieces are more youthful than others.

Well, I'm 53 & I just bought my first Betsey Johnson piece this year (Phoebe's leopard capelet--thanks, Phoebe & Angie!). So if there's some age limit for her clothes, I'm not going to worry about it because I I've surpassed it before I started. I think a lot of her things have a funky, retro look that, as you point out, IK, seem to exist outside of time.

If I still had my Betsey Johnson Junior Prom dress (circa 1990), I would still wear it. But some things have not aged as well.

Since Betsey Johnson isn't exactly young herself and dresses fairly eclectically, I doubt she thinks her clothes have an age limit. I think it's all in the person and their personal style.

There is a 40ish woman that I know who has a lot of Betsey Johnson dresses - short, flouncy, ruffly, lots of bows and rhinestones, etc. - and IMO she looks absolutely ridiculous. I just cringe whenever I see her in one of them.
That being said, I really think it depends on the style of the B.J. item that you are wearing - as well as your own style and personality. But, a little bit of B.J. goes a *long* way!
