Hello Angie!

Thank you so much for this site, it is amazing! After having stalked the forum for the past three days I am finally an active member and can post my own photos! I am very confused about my body shape and want to finally start dressing it optimally.

So, please help me! What's my body type?

Hi Mnemo,

Welcome to the forum! I'm not Angie, but after looking at the photos I think you might be an inverted triangle (because your shoulders seem to be wider than your hips, is that right?).

Thanks, Inge! That's what I've been thinking after reading youlookfab and I definitely have pretty broad shoulders. Only I was a very unsure, because I definitely put on weight in the lower half of my body, wear a bigger size for bottoms than for tops and have quite the booty (cf. side-view).

Not sure if you're really an inverted triangle or if it's just the angle of the picture. Look at the vertical edge of the wall in picture 3, how it's slanted out and appears bigger at the top.

Your shoulders aren't broad. Some people call everything broad.

I do see a pretty broad shoulder line (and a very trim and lovely figure:-) Many women have a secondary body type, Mnemo. You mention that you wear a bigger size on the bottom, so then I would also have a look at the guidelines for (curvy) hourglasses and/or pretty pears, in addition to inverted triangle guidelines, and "mix and match" to see what works for your body. Hope that makes sense?

yeah, I guess. Sometimes it feels like I have two completely different body-types -- one from the front and one from the side!

My shoulders are also on the broad side in real life, even if maybe they look a bit more so on the pictures. So taking the tips for dressing broad shoulders seems like a good idea to me, it's only that I am very confused as how to deal with my bottom half! Adding volume seems overkill, considering the booty. However, I am a bit worried about wearing skinny bottoms now, as this might make my upper body seem too much?

This is all so confusing, yet interesting! Thanks so much for all the input so far!

So because the angle was not very good, I experimented a bit and with the help of a chair and suitcase I managed to get this picture, which is maybe more helpful!

That last pic helps a lot! I'd say you're a Racy Rectangle with Pretty Pear tendencies! Or, since you say that you usually wear a smaller size on top than on the bottom, perhaps you're a Pretty Pear with Racy Rectangle tendencies!?!? I'm sorry I'm not helping I know! Just be assured that you have a very nice body shape!

I'd say you are a racy rectangle with pretty pear or hourglass tendencies. I have a lot of similarities except my shoulder line looks wider (more square) than in your second photo here -- and Angie typed me as slap bang in the middle of slim hourglass/ racy rectangle. My curves are mostly on the bottom, too.

Whatever name you give it, you have a great fit figure and it will be fun to figure out your style!

Racy rectangle. Lucky girl. One thing that's helped me is to check out pics of celebrities that Angie listed as having my body type. Gives me a visual cue.

Thanks so much for your analyses! So what I gathered more or less is that I will try out styling tips for rectangles, possibly going a bit into elongated X hourglass.

I have skimmed through Angie's post on dressing the rectangle and read many of your comments -- and so much there resonates! Like, I love dressing up in skinny jeans and a tight top and always felt like this was a mistake, but I just felt really comfortable in it. And I always, always tuck in/ half tuck in my shirts and love highwaisted pants/skirts! So I guess I've always been going the "adding curves" route, but maybe I should check out the surrendering the waist concept a bit, too.

Anyway, thanks to your help I'm ready for tackling the next steps in figuring out my style.

Your intuition for wearing high waisted skirts and pants is spot on. While I don't think you have short legs, you have a low hip curve, which can make your legs look short.

You appear to have amazing abs! Fit and flare dresses should be super flattering!
