What would you wear with these shorts?

I have a pair of capris (gasp) that I haven't worn in ages and I wonder if they can be saved. They have drawstrings at the ends similar to these:

They hit me a bit above the middle of my calf but can be scrunched and tied at the ends. Is this a bad look? i also wouldn't know what to wear with it. It seems a lot more casual and sporty than anything I would normally wear.

Cute capris! I love that style. Before I came to YLF, I would pair it with something like this in Begonia:

But now I'm not sure if that's good for hourglass. I'm curious to find out myself.

Maya, what is the waist like? Is it a draw string like the photo? Or is it more structured w/button or snap and zipper?

I ask because if the waist is draw string, then they remind me of an athletic pant. Maybe not exactly "gear", but close. If they have a button and zipper, then they strike me as very casual summer pants.

As far as the length--Angie has said that if they go below your knee they should hit you at the widest part of your calf. Is that the case?

I think they are cute and it's good to have a pair of casual pants that you can wear to the beach, to a picnic, or for a day of outdoor activities.

They have a snap button and zipper closure Nicole, and they're made out of a nicer material...which I don't know offhand what it is, but it's very lightweight and summery.

I'm more confused about shoes than anything. I don't have anything super casual other than my Converse sneakers and some moccasins which would look silly. The model in the Kensie shorts is wearing pumps, which is kind of a nice contrast I think, but I can't wear pumps.

I don't dare go braless, so halters are a no-no. I'm not opposed to tanks, but I think I figured out the reason I don't like sleeveless tops: they somehow make me feel wider. Sleeves, especially puff and voluminous sleeves, are a good tool for making everything in between my arms look a bit smaller.

Full length, they hit just above the widest part.

I have a similar pair of Danskins with a snap and zipper waist, but no ties at the cuff. They are the only pair I didn't have shortened!

I've been wearing them with sandals--thong style very casual, not quite flip flops. Did you have luck with those strappy sandals? Could you wear those with the shorts?

They have been comfortable indoors, but I'm so afraid to wear them outside. They're also kind of dressy for a sandal, I think, though I DID like the contrast of the dressy pump with the casual shorts in that picture. It reminds me of the post Angie made about mixing things up, like wearing pearls and fashion sneakers. Wonder if I could get the same effect with those Me Too flats. I seem to wear those with everything lately.

Oh, your cream and black Me Too flats would look really cute with those shorts, I would think. Add a blousy top, to the ensemble, maybe? That one from H&M you have might look good with it. You should try it out and take a photo so we can see.

Sounds like they could work if they aren’t too poofy, Maya. Try your white blouse with skinny belt combo too.

I have similar ones, and they work well with tight/fitted tops, e.g. v-neck sleeveless knit tops.

Antje looks great in hers. I remember scrunching them to high heaven to get the best length to show off her fabulous calves!

I gotta be honest and say I'm just not into sleeveless tops. Perhaps I don't find shoulder bones quite so interesting as everyone else. I will try the belted shirt and maybe some other tops.
