What should I wear with this skirt?

I am wearing this skirt today and I am afraid I made a big mistake...
I have it paired with a red scoop neck knit shirt, white cardigan with a red skinny belt and red heels.

I feel like either I am going to a square dance or a sock hop!

What would you wear with this skirt?

LOL it sounds cute. Can you post a pic of the outfit? Maybe just a different color combo would not give you that feeling?

No photo and not sure I want to actually REMEMBER THIS OUTFIT!
I am hiding out in my office...wishing I had worn a lime green top instead.

Maybe it is the color combination that feels 1950-ish to me.

I think it sounds like it could look really good. But if you're not comfortable in it, then maybe a different color top would be better next time or a stand-alone top without a cardigan. Or maybe a structured jacket wouldn't make you think 50's. I love the skirt.

Hi SusanD: How about a simple white top, a cardi in a not so bright but vibrant color (I'm thinking grass green), and flat shoes of any color? I love the skirt!

I think the outfit sounds great, but I'm a big fan of red black & white (those were even my wedding colors). Is the skirt full, or A-line? Perhaps a woven button down shirt with your cardi, or a jacket like Merry suggested would be better. I really like yellow with black & white too - maybe just changing the red will help?

It's a really cute skirt. I hope you figure out what works for you.

Awww, poor Susan. Days when you regret your choice when you're already at work are the WORST. I'm so sorry you felt like that!

It's probably too late to help, but if you were feeling 50s in it, maybe removing the belt and unbuttoning the cardigan so it was looser would help?

It's such a pretty skirt, I would hate for you to give up on it! Maybe try it with a looser blouse next time; like the RL ruffled one in your post? (Actually, I thought that would look divine with the pink roses skirt, too.) Or instead of white, go with a color on the top -- maybe green or teal or bright pink?

Thanks everyone!
I ended up going for a 3 mile walk on my lunch break. I took off my cardigan and skirt and thru on some jeans and sneakers. When I got back, I changed back into my skirt and left the cardigan and belt off. So, I just had on the red scoop neck long sleeve shirt (has spandex, so it is more fitted) and the black and white polka dot skirt with red heels. It felt a little better, but I don't think I will repeat that outfit.

KristenKP - you made me laugh with your comment : ) Now that I am paying attention to my wardrobe choices more than I had...it seems to suck even more when I get it wrong! Bloating and PMS to boot...well let's just say, I am glad to be home and in jammies!
