What kind of belt with this dress?

Hi Everyone!

This dress has a self-belt (you can almost see it in the photo) but I don't like it. I'd like to wear a real belt with it, but I'm not totally sure which style and color would work best. I'd love some suggestions! I'm thinking probably brown/cognac?

What a cute dress! You may just have to experiment. My first thought before opening your links was a narrow orange or tomato red belt, but I suppose that's a no brainer. Of those you posted I like thefirst one best, the color and the design that kind of echos the pattern of the dress.

What a cute dress and perfect for Texas heat!
anything in a similar shade for the shoes should work as well as belt in any of the colors from the dress print.

I think this might be fun with a yellow belt! Cognac is good too although I'm not sure about the ones you've linked. They seem slightly too busy to me with the cutout patterns possibly competing with the print on the dress (which is fab by the way). Not sure that such a wide belt would work here either... seems like it might end up disproportionately close to the cutout at the top of the dress. But it's hard to tell without seeing it on.

By the way, is that photo taken in an Anthro fitting room? It's sad that I recognize their fitting room decor...

Thanks everyone! I was wondering about belt width, too. I currently have a brown belt that is 1.5" wide, but I think ti's a bit too polished and "modern" for this dress. It has a square buckle. I was thinking a brown belt in a different style might go with some of my other knit dresses too.

Diana, that is a good point about the cutouts and the print. Maybe I will look for something less busy. It is an Anthro fitting room, hee hee. There are two Anthros here and that one has much better lighting than the one closer to me.

I like the first Nordy. belt. Or maybe an orangy-reddy colour to match the flower on the dress? I agree that a proper belt will really lift the Fab quotient of the outfit.

I think a thin cognac, silver, or muted red (plain/unadorned) would be my preference.

I don't mind the self belt. It makes the dress easily casual. But since you're asking...

I like the options you have chosen if you go the wide, waist belt route. Otherwise, a medium width black belt, neutral in personality, is not too classic for this dress.

I'm not sure if you're in the market for belts, but I have been loving the selection of slim belts at J Crew this year. Very good leather, great colors, these are my two favorites.

Beautiful dress. I habr trouble seeing the wider belts working as I feel the dress lends itself to a slimmer belt. My first thought was a red belt and to keep it simple. Or match the shoes:).

Because I'm very minimal and the dress is interesting already, I would just pick a color of the dress -which I think is either red or black?- for the belt AND the shoes.

I'm sorry I don't see those shoes with the dress, but then again I am a bit biased since I have a brown+black+is+just+not+right trauma.

The dress is gorgeous and looks great on you, by the way!

Thanks for the suggestions and comments on the dress, everyone! I really appreciate it. I guess I need to wear the dress out and go belt shopping so I can experiment a little bit.

Angie, do you mean a belt that is cheetah print or something? I have a zebra belt but it definitely does not go with the dress. It's possible a cream snake print would work.

Lemonade, the dark bits on the dress are actually navy, not black. Sorry, I know it's hard to tell in the photo. I guess I would describe the dress as mostly navy, cream and coral, which is why I chose the brown shoes.
