I like where you're going with the idea, but the denim-on-denim leaves me cold, even though it contrasts. It's just too much of the same texture to me. Perhaps a regular buttondown in a pretty color, or a more blousy top instead.

I have that denim pencil skirt btw, and while I love it, it is a little awkward to walk in at times (going up stairs).

Hah! Your eye has adjusted to the denim on denim trend. So has mine if it's a skirt and there is LOTS of added texture to the ensemble (a la our lovely Julie's recent gals night out outfit). It's like wearing a denim dress with layers. Still can't condone jeans worn with a denim shirt in the same wash, though. Yet this look is popping up everywhere.

Oh. I love the idea. I think the texture difference between the denim and thinner fabrics make it work. Can't wait to see you in it.

Khris, I also think you can actually pull this off. I have a very similar denim skirt outfit that i substitute the lavender cardi with black and throw a soft nude floral pin on to tie in my nude shoe.

I guess this works becasuse the wash on the top is so faded , yet pops against the black cardi, and my skirt is so dark"_

Have you tried to pull something together like it on polyvore?...just to get a group visual .

I just can't get my head around this, and I'm usually pretty fashion forward. It just seems new and different for the sake of new and different. A different top would add visual interest with color or texture, while this one requires other pieces to create visual interest. That just seems like a whole lot of work to me for a not-necessarily-better-and-possibly-worse result. I guess my eye is behind the times this time around!

I just wanted to add what LOP has said, I think it helps with denim on denim if your two pieces are of different weights. My shirt is very light weight and drapey whilst the skirt was quite stiff. I think it added a little textural interest.

I like the idea of your outfit Khris, I can't wait for you to find the pieces. Those shoes look perfect for you.

I have been playing around with pieces like this too. I think it works, as suggested if there are different weights and fabrics.

I think denim shirts are really versatile I would like one to wear with black skirts as part of smart casual and depending on the style of shirt moving into business casual. There is heaps of denim shirts and dresses coming into stores (did we miss that in our Euro fashion thread?)

I love those shoes - can't wait to see you all dressed up and ready to go!

Have you tried on those shoes? They ran a little big for me (another one of those styles where I really need a 10 1/2 grrr) and were surprisingly wobbly for a wedge. Really cute, though. If they had fit, they would have come home with me (except in the lavender, which is really pink) and I would have learned to deal with the wobbly.

I´m with Maya on the denim-on-denim- part. But I think if you keep the cardi buttoned up, it´ll look more like a dress and it´ll be mor like denim on knit.

I didn't think I'd say this, but I like it too. You're breaking up the denim with color and texture, the denim colors are very different as are the fabric weights. I can't wait to see you in it!

Dusty- I did try the shoes on, and I found them comfortable, although higher than anything that I usually wear. They do seem to run big.

I like the idea! I also don't like stiff tops in general, so it would be really great if the denim shirt is lighter weight. It would drape better, too.

It's uncanny that I am actually busy with a post on denim shirts right now. So many of you bring up excellent points!

I am 100% into a certain denim-on-denim look so stay tuned. Even though chambray is not for me (too preppy), it's a great way of getting the denim shirt look in a different texture. Stay tuned.

I am ambivalent about the denim-on-denim trend, but I agree that differences in texture, weight, and tone will be to making it work.
