Hi all,

I was out with Sarah and Patience this afternoon, and it was really fun. Sarah got the argyle cardigan that has been on her wishlist forever and it was on sale! Patience got a cute jacket, I'm sure they will post photos.

I didn't get anything, because I'm saving up for boots, but after Patience left, Sarah and I popped into into WHBM (they didn't have the straight leg cream jeans in). I tried on a black trench which I'm not getting, but I also tried on this hat, which I actually liked. It's sort of retro, and I was thinking about getting it when it went on sale (I wouldn't wear it with a black trench--probably a dress or maybe even my jeans and a white button down). Sarah thought it was really cute as well and took a photo for me:

What do you all think about hats? Patience and I noticed BR was carrying one as well. I've always been sort of confused as to where they belong in a wardrobe (or if they do).

I love hats! I used to have a very similar one in my better days I am sure you can pull it off in a funky way, too. I'm not much help with their place in one's wardrobe, but it is very cute! One thing I remember about my old hat - it was fairly warm (which I don't think you need) and a good protection from the rain.

I like hats and used to wear them in my younger days. I actually had a hat collection--with about 20 hats, of which I wore maybe half of them.

The main negative with hats, IMO, is that you will get hat head and have to commit to wearing the hat for the day or suffer thru bad hair. I suppose some people don't get hat head--but I do.

I LOVE hats! I get to post about some of my favorite things - jewelry and hats - in one day. In the winter, I almost always wear a hat. I don't have any pictures to post, but I just love the way they bring a look together and can really add panache to something basic.

It's a family thing, too. My husband is big into hats. It's a fun thing for both of us.

Ana - I think that the hat looks great on you. It looks like it is felt, which makes me think of cool weather (which I know is relative in Austin) so I would probably wear it with a jacket for a fall/winter look.

When I first moved to Seattle from Florida, I was always cold but didn't want to wear a knit hat. I bought a brown felt hat with a black velvet band and bow. I wore it with my black wool coat to work every day. People would actually stop me in the street and compliment me on my hat. I think that so few people wear stylish hats (as opposed to utilitarian hats) that they really make a statement and are noticeable.

Love hats! Unfortunately for me, most of them are too big for my head, or they have a dreadful effect on my hair. But I do intend to get one for winter, as I lost the one I had last year

BR has a great hat collection right now. I'm very fond of the wool cloche hat and am leaning towards that since they have a S/M size. It looks a bit like the one you tried on (which looks great, btw). Did you actually go in and try any on or did you just notice them there?

As for how they fit in, I don't know how useful they will be to you in Austin, but up here we need to retain all the warmth we can. The thing I'm not sure about is wearing them indoors. One of my friends often wears a newsboy hat on bad hair days, which seems fine, but wearing an actual wintery wool hat might be odd. I'm not sure.

When I was a kid I used to love those hats with the flipped-up brims pinned in place with a giant flower, à la Blossom :p

I love hats and I love how they look on other people. That one is very cute on you and I'm sure it would add a lot to outfits! I mainly picture something like that with a dress or a skirt, but with a great pair of dress pants and a blouse with a skinny belt it could look awesome too.

Every time I put on a hat I look ridiculous. For some reason I just can't pull it off. But I keep trying because I feel like someday I WILL find my perfect hat! I'm thinking of trying a newsboy hat for this winter.

I love love love hats. I bought a cute black cap last year and always got compliments when I wore it. Plus it worked well when my hair frizzed out in the rain I think this one looks great on you - very sophisticated. The nice thing about hats is they do get you noticed since few people wear them. (as long as you want to be noticed)

I didn't know BR and WH were selling them, I'll have to take a look too!

Great look - go for it! I wear hats and love them but do get awful hat hair. Which reminds me of a question I've been meaning to post and will do so separately.

My favourites are the Sweetheart, the Fedorable and the Incognito. If I looked better in a hat, I would give these a try in a heartbeat.

I love the hat on you, Ana! I really like hats, but find I don't usually want to keep track of them. I do use a fab one for the pool or beach. In the winter I like to have something to keep my ears warm too.

Interesting topic. I adore hats but can't wear them except for gear. I love a good hat shop and trying on all the really over the top styles. You look good in that hat and if you can work it into your lifestyle I think it is a pleasure to see you wear it.

Ana, I like that hat on you, but it's quite an elegant look, it seems pretty "special occasion" to me. If you want to invest in a hat, I'd experiment with other shapes as well. I think you have a good hat head

Oops, I just realize that was a wrong choice of words, I didn't mean hat head = the flat hair kinda effect. I meant you have a nice head and face for wearing a hat. Gee, I think I'll have a glass of wine and unwind, I've had a long day and been sitting in front of the PC too much today.
