Wedges from my Sister's Closet

As I went through my sister's clothing and shoes to clear out her condo to put it up for sale, I am having both amazing moments of realizing how alike we really were as well as tears that she is indeed not there. . We had some many things that were opposite, I just wish she was here to laugh with me as I point out the similarities and then the things that were classically only Kelley. Part of me is frustrated that my brother's haven;t lifted a finger to help with this process, but another part finds it a great privilege to share this process with DD 25.

My sister had 3 pairs of brand new Summer Wedges and I had to laugh as that meant she bought them on clearance at the end of the Season as she passed away in November.

So , I added these 3 Wedges into my wardrobe.

Black - Clark's (her favorite shoe company after foot surgery)
Teal - Springstep - I have been wanting a pair of these artsy ones for a long time but every time I saw them they were more that I wanted to spend on a Summer Shoe.

So if Espadrille Wedges are my signature, these slide in versions were hers, lol

there is something special about the idea of walking in my sister's shoes. In fact in September I am going to wear her Asics tennis shoes to walk my first ever 5K because she did several marathon's a year. Her favorite one was a costume 10k one in October so hope to find someone to join me, may even post on her Facebook to see if her friends will join me. I lost 5lbs my first week on Weight Watcher's Simply Filling and will be ready for this Fall.

If you got through all this , thank you, a type of therapy for me...

How special to find these lovely similarities. I can certainly see echoes of your style in hers, the boho influence in particular, and the love of color in the last pair.

I'm sorry that your brothers aren't more helpful. My whole family came together to clear out my mothers house after she passed. It is such a bittersweet process to go through.

Now that's interesting - different styles within a common framework. That's cool. And a very nice, special thing to wear her shoes for your race. Like a blessing.

Brothers are odd creatures. And the mix of siblings, male and female, no doubt influences how things divide up. My dad was from a family of all boys, and his brothers were so helpful when my dad passed away. My mother was the only girl in a passel of boys, and her brothers weren't there for her like my dad's brothers. But then again - my dad's brothers cleared the gutters, changed the furnace filters, etc. My mum's brothers, don't know that they do that stuff in their own homes. They're not physical like that.

So sorry for the loss of your sister. I think walking (and running!) in her shoes will be a very special blessing. That third pair of sandals is amazing! Your sister must have been a fun person to choose those. I know you will enjoy them.

I think it will be therapeutic for you to wear something that has belonged to your sister. I definitely can see how alike you were! Those shoes are beautiful and they look so much "you". I am sorry that your brothers are not helping, but your daughter is there, and this is a blessing.

So very very sorry for the loss of your sister....I have an 11 yrs older Bro, and I was literally frightened to death when he had an accident in December and still recovering...:-() so your loss is one of the worse, unfortunatelly. But think walking in her shoes (and running a 5K in her honour!) will be a very special blessing....My sincere condoleances, hope to cope somehow with...

ETA: Bros-God bless them forever:-)- are another kind of animal... I personally think we cannot expect them to sort through a sister's(mother's wardrobe). Mine didn't do either... But once that done they may help with sorting throughout/moving out and listing the house, other administrations or so...

I am sure that you sister would love that these new shoes found a home with you and that you can get the enjoyment from them. Walking in your sister's shoes...it takes on a new and special meaning in this case. Honouring her through the 5km walk is a great idea.

Love the idea of doing a 5K in her shoes. What a special honor. I have a ring of my sister's (she passed away unexpectedly 08/15) that I wear every day. I love it and think of her often. I hope to get a few items of clothing when I go down to visit her husband and daughters this spring. I think things like that give us good memories and make us feel closer to those who have died.

I'm sure you must be experience a huge range of emotions as you go through your sister's things. I'm glad you are able to process as you go along, and I'm sure that the shoes will help you carry her memory forward.

Thanks every one and just to make it clear I wasn't talking about no help from brother's when it came to her wardrobe, Of course that and her toiletries in over abundance were best done by me. I am saving the kitchen for them to do with me and see what they want. The spare bedroom and front closet with all her hobby stuff is the hardest along with all the office stuff. Getting it done and happy with my pace.
