Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Wedding outfit...shoes...cardi confusion.

Thinking of wearing this skirt (you've seen before) to a wedding in Napa in Sept:

I am considering these shoes:

Would pair it with a simple white blouse.
And possibly a cardi -- maybe pink.
I am concerned about too much pink, too matchy matchy. I don't want to look like a Stepford Wife!
Is it the shoes? Should I just go black or nude instead? I like the heel height on these, but I am not really such a fan of sling backs.
Would a pink cardi too much? Or would it be better in a different color?
Should the cardi be cropped so it ends at the waist and not below? I don't want it to look matronly. Long sleeves for the cardi or 3/4? If 3/4, would I roll up the sleeves on the blouse?
Or, no cardi at all? Something else entirely?
Seems like this should be easy, but it's confusing me.
I tend to link classic with a twist:

I know you all will have just the right suggestions. Thank you SO much!

Ah yes, I remember this skirt- it is definitely fantastic but because it is really a "statement" piece, it should be paired with more simple, understated items. I'm inclined to say the pink shoes could be too matchy-matchy, but I wouldn't go with black either (perhaps a personal preference, but it seems too heavy a colour). What about nude, metallic, or white? Pairing it with a white blouse is a good idea, but again I think a pink cardigan could be too much pink (as you are wondering). Personally I think I'd play it safe and go with a white cardi too, but if you want something with more interest, maybe yellow or turquoise? Or even a pretty, soft grey... hmm- unless you'd find that too bland? As for the sleeves and the length of the cardigan, I guess it depends what the blouse is like, first of all, and the weather as well. I'd probably go for 3/4 sleeves and either cropped or just to the top of the skirt.
Do you know what you're doing for bag/accessories yet?

Have not thought about accessories yet -- I need to get my basics figured out. Thanks for your help!!!

Perfect suggestions Lannie! I'm impressed.

Great skirt! I think the pink shoes would be okay if (and only if) you don't wear pink up top. So no pink cardi then. But if you pick a white cardi (good idea, Lannie!) over the white blouse, then I think the pink shoes are perfectly fine. Add silver jewelry, maybe?

both lannie and antje have lovely suggestions :) just to add my two cents, i'm thinking the pink shoes are too much as well. i would go with metallic, probably silver. nude would look great as well. i could also see camel/tan working as well.

if you do plan on wearing a white blouse, which i agree would look fab, i wouldn't do a white cardi over it - looks too much like a twinset, which would be very stepford wife-y. i could see emerald/kelly green being a great match with this skirt. navy or grey might work as well. i would do a cropped cardigan, either 3/4 length or just a couple inches above the elbow.

As I was looking at the picture of your skirt, I noticed a pack of bright post-its near the screen and looked at the colors with the skirt. I know the colors on screen might not be accurate, but what if you went with a cardi that didn't match the skirt but was near the same color family and intensity. If the skirt is bright pink and orange, what about fushia or coral or reddish-purple (still having red in it)?

I love nude colored shoes. They go with almost everything. On another site the "expert" says that the best shoes for an individual are those that "match" their hair color. Blondes were to wear nude; brunettes black or dark brown; red heads warm medium browns, tans. It's just a thought, but I suppose that way head and toes go together no matter what you put between.

I think a dark purple cardi (not necessarily reddish) would be cute.

I second Joy's idea. I think that a cardi in a reddish family that does not match either skirt color would be awesome: plum, tomato red, fuschia, burgundy etc. I particularly like the idea of burgundy. With a white shirt and nude or gold shoes it would be awesome!

My vote is for silver shoes and a grey cardigan.... but to keep it from being boring, perhaps a cardi with a dramatic collar, something that's more of a wrap, or a little bit metalic?

Kyle, I just found this. You've probably seen it, but just in case...isn't the far right picture of your skirt with a bright cardi and white top?

Kyle, Have you decided what you're going to wear with the skirt? Have you tried some things on?

I'm not sure if my computer is showing me the right colors...What is the other color on the skirt? Is it coral or orange?

I like the suggestion of a metallic shoe and a white top. I think if you kept the shoe and top neutral, then you could have a pop of color in a cardi or even a wrap.

I'm jealous you're going to Napa...I've only been there once, and only for 2 days---it was absolutely beautiful...even air smelled lovely!

Ladies: These are lovely, very helpful suggestions. Joy, the photo you found is absolutely correct. I like the idea of doing a white blouse and metallic or nude shoe. It will be a challenge to find the right shoe because I am picky, and I prefer to stay under 3 inches...2 is even better. Once I have that sorted out and see how everything looks together, I will determine next steps. If I do a cardi, I'll probably just have to try a few options and see what works best.

I could also see doing a really fun shoe with color, maybe even pink and/or orange if I keep everything else really clean and simple. i.e. just a classic white blouse and minimal jewelry. I've been traveling and not focusing on this, but now I need to get in gear!
