way to make this scarf work?

I dug out this scarf I received as a gift a few years ago. I tried to pair it with a cardi & belt but I think it looks too frumpy. Any suggestions on how to make it work?

As a scarf pro, my suggestion is the best way to wear such a scarf is to tuck the ends in the cardi like this:

or wear it cowboy style with a button down and again tuck it in:

julijuli I love the colors you have in your scarf and the sweater. I also love the way bellacville tucks the tails into her shirt or sweater, as it then doesn't fight with the belt for attention.
One thing I wonder about when I button cardigans myself, is there a rule about leaving the bottom button unbuttoned? I see that bellacville does this and I thought I had read it here sometime before to leave it undone. Does anyone have opinions on this?

I don't know why, but I also typically leave at least one button open at the bottom. I think it might look a bit more casual that way, less deliberate/formal.

Antje, great call! I love muffler style. I think it works best when the rest of the outfit is pretty simple.

San - good catch! I hadn't realized that I left the last button undone until you pointed it out. As you can tell, I'm not aware of a rule either, but like Antje, I think it looks less formal, more casual and fun this way.

Thanks gals - I knew you'd have some good suggestions.

I'm going to try Bella's way today since I have a turtleneck on at the moment. I do agree with unbuttoning the last button and will do that too! And, I'm going to try Antje's muffler idea when I wear a lower neck shirt -when I tried it with the turtle it was kind of too much on my neck!

Julie, no turtle neck under a scarf like this. You need a shirt collar or knitted top. Does that make sense? I can show you at DFS tomorrow. Sweet belted cardi look :0)
