Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

voluminous top

As referred to in this post http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....p-this-top
here is this top, on me
with clams http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....op/059.jpg
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....op/060.jpg

with skinnies
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....op/056.jpg

and with short shorts (these don't usually go out of the house, but I wonder if a slightly longer version would work)
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....op/061.jpg

my main issues are that this top is shorter than tunic length and that it is therefore bottom and thigh revealing (those parts tend to be where I am biggest) as well as (of course) being voluminous over the torso, where I am a bit thinner.

I have a favourite, but I'll wait for your opinions.

Heaps more pics from my shopping trip to come, but I'll send them in gradually.

I think it looks great! Very cute.

Well honestly, I think this top is too short for the volumnous look. I want to say to try belting it but it is too short for that. I don't think you have any parts that need to be hidden, you look well proportioned, but after hiding your waistline with your daughters it seems time to show it off.
I feel I am going to get slammed for this opinion!!!!!

Oh, the top is pretty, I don't know why but I prefer it with the clams and San, how could anyone slam you?

Thanks! San - I am certainly not going to slam you - your reservations are exactly the same as mine!
I agree, Maya and Julie that the top is pretty. Just don't know if it is right for me.

For some more info, I bought it with really hot summer days in mind (like those we discussed in the middle of your summer a few months ago). It get really hot here, up to and over 40C (I think that means over 100F). So I wasn't really thinking of either belting it or wearing with skinnies as its primary use (I mean, if it works, I can do that too, but it is not the main reason I bought them. Am I making sense?

I actually prefer the look with the short shorts! Maybe because they aren't tight around the thigh and so hide my curves there. Maybe because this sort of outfit is something of a trendy MOTG outfit in my town! (they often wear cuffed or rolled up shorts with a top like this).

I liked it best with the shorts too.

I"m thinking I don't like it with the skinnies, because it puts all your weight in your hips. Try it with straight or boot cuts and see if that is better. Also, I wonder what putting a jacket over it would do.

I like the top best with the clams, Anne. It looks terrific!

I'm afraid I’m not sold on the short shorts :0(

Queenie - re the skinnies - exactly! yes I could try other types of jeans and jackets

Angie what about if I wore shorts a little longer? I am not saying I look great in short shorts - I couldn't with my thighs. I just felt they hid that bit where my thighs curve out.

Do you really think it is worth keeping with the clams? I am beginning to think I shouldn't have bought it.

Oh, please keep, Anne! It looks so great with clams. I think it is very current and hip. I can see how you feel a little uncomfortable about it because it's a new look for you and different from your usual style. But that doesn't make it less fantabulous! It's really great and I think you should go for it.

I like it best with the clamdiggers. I understand your reservations, though. With very voluminous, shorter tops like that, I tend to feel very top heavy, mainly because the top hangs off my chest, which isn't large, but feels huge in a shirt like that.

I really love your new haircut! I don't think I have seen it before now.

Thanks Ana and Alecia (I am not sure I can take it back anyway. The shop is in the city miles away)
I think I would just feel happy if it was a little longer - maybe 3 inches more. Then the length could cancel out the bagginess, plus there'd be more coverage.

And yes it makes me feel top heavy, and since I am actually bottom heavy, can feel heavy all over!

That type of cut-away shoulder is new for me too, and while I know Angie likes it, I have always felt it made my shoulders look too prominent.

Oh and thanks for compliment re new haircut. I am fairly happy with it - still working on styling it as it seems to vary a lot from day to day

Anne I like the cut away shoulder look on you. That is an element of the top that I found very attractive on you. You have very delicate and beautiful shoulders.

ooh thanks San - never thought of my shoulders that way!

Anne I have a similar top I bought last year from Target. I have only worn it with skinny jeans but I like your look paired with clams too. I will have to search for a pair this summer I think!

Thanks Tam! I bought mine from Valley Girl
Angie, when you have a moment, can I get your opinion on wearing mid-length shorts with this top (as in, a bit longer than I was wearing in the short shorts pic)?

Posted 4 months ago

I like it with clams best, Anne. Hands down. The volume on top needs a sleeker bottom. I really think that the clams will work better than any type of walk short.

Thanks for getting back to me Angie.
I am planning to buy some walk shorts this summer though. I was thinking black pin stripes. Can I wear them with more fitted tops?

I am very light on for summer bottoms (that actually fit)- sum total is clams, denim skirt and one patterned skirt.

That sounds like a super idea, Anne!

Anne, like San, I love how this top highlights your beautiful shoulders and arms. I wish it was a bit longer and a little less voluminous. I'm going to go against the majority and say that I actually like it best with the short shorts which I know is a YLF rule breaker. This does seem to be a very trendy look (at least among teens/twenty-somethings). I think your idea of a pair of walking shorts sounds great and I'd be curious how this top would work with it.
