Voluminous 'lantern' skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Friday was a bad day at work at I ended up buying this skirt purely for emotional reasons.

I find that pencil or Aline skirts suit me best but I'm always drawn to beautiful full skirts. This one has an unusual cut and I was lost in the beauty of it and the need to cheer myself up.

Today I've been trying it on..it's a tough one for me because of my short waist...but I want to keep it. I've tried it with a range of different shoes and tops. Please let me know what you think.

ps. I've been to hula class this morning so my hair is messy!

Pic 1. With fine wool Scanlan Theodore top and Nine West booties (I will def. wear a cami under as the top is a little see through..woops). I like this.

Pic 2. With Piper top and heels I've had forever. I like the top but the heels aren't comfy.

Pic 3. With lace top from a 'fast fashion' shop and Jo Mercer booties. I like this look.

Pic 4. More of a summer look and worn with flats. I like this but it needs jewelry.

Pic 5. With Gucci knit (bought second-hand) and cage heels (probably my least favourite)

Pic 6. My favourite look. Worn with an A/X cropped denim jacket and Mel wedge mary janes. I would wear an off white top under, not pink as in the pic.

Pics 7. & 8. While I was playing, I wanted to try my Coles pants with a Sass and Bide jacket I bought from the Red Cross op shop. The back seam of the lining was split but it was an easy fix. I really like it! The shell necklace was also from the opshop. I bought the shoes from Barcelona last year. The jacket has one side thats longer and loose but fitted everywhere else.

I saw that skirt online and was drawn to it very much. A great shape. I am also short waisted and I often match my top to a full skirt or wear a similar intensity of colour.

I like 1, 3, 4 and 6. I think 3 and 6 are my favourites, I think they are both stunning. 1 works well and it probably is not as see through IRL, the camera flash is unforgiving. I am not so keen on 2, maybe the top is more boho and the skirt is quite minimalist.

I love those Coles pants.

You have a fantastic wardrobe! I think each and every one of these stylings work. I especially like 3 and 6. I like 4 but would probably prefer this concept with D'Orsay flats rather than ballet flats. Sorry for being picky. O_o

And as for 7 and 8, I'm speechless. Very fab. And how amazing that you can find Sass & Bide at a thrift store. Mine specializes in Faded Glory (a Wal*Mart house brand for those not living in the US).

I think these all work. My faves are 1, 3 and 6. You wear the skirt well. Love the slightly retro vibe. And that jacket was a find.

That skirt is amazing. Suits you beautifully. Love the version with the cropped denim jacket:) The Sass and Bide Jacket is very cool. My Red Cross shop has a small range of what I think are Sass and Bide seconds. It's amazing what you can find in there.

The skirt is fab on you with 3 being my favorite and I also really like 6. The jacket was a great find.

Wow! You look amazing in all iterations of the skirt (what a great skirt). I think I have to vote for the one with the cropped white top and those awesome black and white shoes as my favourite. I also love the pants and jacket in the last two photos. I adore that shade of green ...and now you have me think I should try that style of pant too, as I've yet to jump on the slouchy track style pant bandwagon...hope I'm not too late...

You look amazing in that skirt! I'm taking notes, because I have a similarly shaped one, and I am short-waisted too. And I haven't really figured out what to wear mine with. I think every one of these works well. My special faves are 2, 3, and 6.

I think it looks great. My first thought is definitely not "gee, what a short waist she has", it's "cool high-waisted skirt"!

My favorite is with the white lace top, but I dig those stripey blue wedges.

I'm wearing it to work today. I have it on with the top in pic 1 (with a cami under..lol) and the flats in pic 4. I'm wearing it with a green necklace.

I'm going to look out for some D'Orsay flats. Thanks for the suggestion CocoLion. I think that they will look fab with this skirt.
