Two new dresses, one via YLF!

Hi Ladies,

Little styling, no accessorizing and bad lighting. I am terrible. I hope you can see past the photo faux pas!

First, let me say thank you to Natalie for letting me take this first dress off her hands. I like the color very much and it feels good on. Does the color work for me? I apologize - you may be unable to tell due to poor lighting. I'm going to have to figure out some toppers for it. I have a teal cropped cardi that might work, a natural color cropped cardi and I'm going to try a black turtleneck too. What do you think? How is the belt height?

Dress #2 is a cabled sweater dress from Modcloth. Is this a keeper? I like it but I have to say I have one major complaint: It STINKS! It smells like plastic. It's composed of Nylon, viscose and angora. I've had nylon and acrylic sweaters before and they did not smell. What gives? Anyone have any suggestions?

Some of you might recognize my little vest as my former cropped denim jacket. I ripped a huge hole in the elbow so off came the sleeves! Love it as a vest too.

Love both!! Natalie's dress is perfect on you!! What a happy ending for all!!

The sweater dress fits you well and I think it looks fantastic. I just couldn't stand keeping it if it smells bad. I've had to send back two things that I loved in the last year due to the smell. It was sad to give them up but I couldn't be sure that the smell would go away.

I'm concerned that may be the case here. I won't wear it if I can't stand the smell. I wonder if it is how they store things? It's really weird.

The dress is terrific on you! I love the way the belt looks a little high - it plays with proportion nicely, so the dress is not cut in half but closer to thirds. Very feminine shape! Hard to see the colour on you but it seems like it will work, and I think you wouldn't have chosen it if it wasn't a colour you wear! The sweater dress looks great on you too, especially with the vest. Sorry about the smell

BTW I loved your bustle skirt in the Everett meet post!

And I just want to curl up with your doggies in front of that lovely fire ^_^

About the smell on #2, I wonder if it was from the bag it was stored and shipped in? I just read a reviewer over on Lands End about a sweater with the same issue. She was ready to ship it back from the strong, sickening plastic smell on the sweater and thought it was from one of the man made fibers or that something like machine oil had spilled on it. After being out of the bag for a couple of days, no smell so she figured it was from being in the bag and absorbing that odor. Just a thought.

The purple dress looks perfect on you! As for the sweater dress, I'd return it. I'm sure you can find a similar style sweater dress that smells nice. The style looks great on you.

The vestification of your jacket is great. It's making me look twice at some of the things in my closet Here come the scissors!

2 big fat winners here! I would give the 'stinky' dress a few days of airing out before you decide to send it back. I recognize that belt in 1 Seems we have more than one matching wardrobe item . . .

Great dresses! I'm pretty sure the sweater dress would smell fine after some airing out and a washing/dry cleaning (but of course, then you couldn't return it if the smell didn't go away afterall.)

The first dress is FAB!!! I think it looks amazing on you. The belt placement looks good to me. I'm not sure about toppers, but it sounds like you have some good ideas to try. I like the sweater dress also - personally, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable without tights underneath it, but I'm admittedly conservative about skirt length! That said, you have the legs to rock it! And could that doggie of yours look any cuter crashed out in front of the fire?!

ETA: I agree about giving the sweater dress a day or two to air out. I've had a couple of items that smelled when they first came out of the packing, but were fine not long after.

Oh wow, Andrea! This dress is perfect for you! I was so bummed when it didn't work out for me especially since it was an eBay purchase and not returnable, so I'm so glad it finally found the right home. It's just the right shade for your coloring. And I love how you styled it with the belt and boots--what kind of boots are they? You look exquisite! Can't wait to see this dress on you more!

As for the second dress, I'd let it air out for a couple of days but if it still smelled then return it. Once I bought a coat from Anthro that was shipped from one of their stores and it smelled funny, like perfume or Febreeze or something. Very odd. It must have been tried on or returned by a customer wearing heavy perfume or something. The smell didn't go away after several days, so I returned the coat--I knew I'd never want to wear it because I'm very sensitive to smells (I never wear perfume).

Mo - that's my plan. I may hang it outside or in the basement to really let it get some air (daylight basement).I like that we are multi-item twins at opposite corners of the US!

Christy - If the sweater dress de-smells I will definitely be wearing tights with it! Even if I weren't worried about too much skin....BRRRR!!

Natalie - Thanks! The boots are Miz Mooz; I love them. If the smell doesn't go away, the dress goes. I'm not particularly sensitive to smells but this is just gross.

I like the way you styled the sweater dress with the "new" denim vest (GREAT restyling of that item!) but I would not keep it if it smells, especially since you cant wash it easily. Ugh!

The sweater dress is great, too, especially with the cute new vest! But if it smells, ugh. Too bad if it doesn't work. Keep us posted.

These both look great! I think I would wear tights with the second one because of the color. I never had a smell issue like that with new clothing before. Sometimes it has that sort of new clothes smell, but it goes away with a wash.
