Two dresses: which is better?

I recently bought a new dress. It's a replacement for the most perfect dress ever, which I was waiting to buy until I determined where my fluctuating weight would plateau. Despite going to the store several times, the saleswoman telling me they would still have the dress in a month, and me giving the saleswoman my contact information in case they ran low...the dress went on sale and ended up completely sold out nationwide. I'm still devastated.

Anyway, since the most perfect dress ever was gone, I got this one because it looked like it had some similarities. Unfortunately, the color wasn't the shade I was hoping for. It's a great color, but I have another dress of a very similar turquoise. I'm posting both the new dress and the turquoise dress I already own to see which people like better. If the dress I own is the clear winner, I'll just return the new dress. If the new dress is preferred, then I have to decide if I need two turquoise dresses. Of course, if you hate both, feel free to tell me that as well. I apologize for the wrinkles in the dress and for the slight blurriness in one photo.

I like #1 a ton more; hands down. #2 seems really fussy.

Oh, I hate it when that happens, Steph. I've been burned a few times while stalking an item, waiting for it to go on sale, and then finding that it went out of stock the one time that I wasn't looking!

I like both dresses but prefer the clean lines & beautiful seaming around the waistline of #1. #1 is a bit low cut, though, so that's one thing to consider in terms of where you would wear it. And the seaming on the bust emphasizes "the girls" quite a bit. (Edited to add: Not a bad thing, again - just something to consider in terms of how you would wear it.)

The combination of both ruffles and bow and the tiered seams in #2 is just a tad too fussy for my taste, but I like the overall shape of the dress on you.

I'm having a hard time with the bra looking seams in #1. If it weren't for those, I'd be much more enthusiastic about it.

I like #1 better... the other one is way too fussy for me, but I'm busty and have to watch out for that kind of thing (like the big bow and the ruffles as they definitely draw attention to that area). Love the color of both, one of my very favorite colors.

#2 also KILLER but in a totally different way. Personally I prefer #1 because I love clean lines, but know that the dress you already have is very beautiful too.

Thanks everyone! So interesting that so many people find dress 2 to be busy. I guess I don't mind busy, because that didn't even really occur to me! Angie, the dress I currently own is actually dress number 1; the new dress I am considering is dress 2. I didn't mention which was which because I didn't want anyone to feel bad if they didn't like dress 1.

Looking at these photos actually just makes me more depressed about losing out on the best dress ever. Here it is, in all its glory: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/na.....ss/3036674 The color made my eyes and skin look brighter, the fit is great (I actually already own the same dress in black, from a few years ago--I guess Nanette Lepore decided to reissue the dress in blue at her boutiques only; I am so bitter that the saleswoman didn't call me as she promised she would). But I guess I need to get past it. The link I posted is from Nordstrom but I called both Nordstrom and the Rack and they said they don't have it. The saleswoman at Nordstrom said that she doesn't think they ever actually carried it. I wish there was some way to track it down.

Did you ever set up an alert on Ebay? They email you if your item goes on sale.
You could set it up for the best dress of all time, just in case someone has it in your size, nwt.

Steph, so sorry to hear about the Nordstrom's dress, but I do love dress #1 on you. I would keep an eye on the Nordstrom's website to see if the dress pops back up again due to returns. Ebay is also another great idea. Did you try Nordstrom's Customer Service department? I remember that they were able to track down a blouse for Beth that (I think) was no longer available on the website.

So sad about your Perfect Dress! Rotten luck...Given these two options, I actually prefer #2--love the fit and the details. With #1 (being perfectly frank) I mostly notice your bust rather than anything else...something about the seamed cups and the thinner straps...it reminds me of a swimsuit (though I do think it's a great layering piece).

I like dress #2 better than #1 because of the bra issue- it looks a bit like a swimsuit as Jonesy said. Very flattering but am not sure if it would be versatile. #2 is very cute.

And Debora's right, Nordstrom tracked down a NAS blouse for me four months after the sale. It's worth a try.

What rotten luck. Well both of these dresses are lovely on you, but as Angie said, they are different. Dress #1, I really see as a layering dress, on it's own, the seaming draws a lot of attention to the girls. Dress #2, it's lovely on it's own and I can see it working with a fun headband.

I really like dress #1 Steph it has a bandage dress vibe and looks really flattering, dress #2 is not a patch on the dress that got away IMO or on the dress you currently own. A dress is out there which will mend your heartache but this is not the one.

I like both dresses! They are different from each other.

I would not wear #1 to work because it emphasizes your bust, but I think it'd be great for date night and out with friends.....

Keep looking for your perfect dress----I really love it and hope you find it!

Love dress 1 and think it looks super on you! While both dresses are turquoise, I find them totally different. The vibe of the second one one is much more girly, while the first one is more femme, if that makes sense. No offense meant with either term, just cannot come up with better descriptors.

I really like both of these dresses on you. I like fussy and busy and I also like minimal, with great structure. I think both could we great for a number of occasions.

Thanks everyone! To those worried about the boob exposure in dress 1--I have to admit, I don't mind bringing attention to my chest (as long as I don't think it looks squashed, unattractive, etc.). I spent many, many years loathing my bust size, and now I just embrace it without apology, and don't mind a bit of exposure. But no worries--I would never, EVER wear something like that to work! In fact, I wouldn't wear either of these dresses to work--these are for non-work occasions only.

I am going to call Nordstrom customer service and see if I have more luck there than I did when I called my local store. The local store did check all of the inventory, but maybe main customer service has some other options? I fear that the dress from the Nordstrom site is actually a couple of years old, based on some research I did, and that it was simply reissued by Nanette Lepore at her boutiques this year. But we'll see.

At the very least, it seems most people agree that the dresses are different enough that the similar color doesn't make them so similar that I couldn't keep both. Now to decide if I want to keep the new one or not. Thanks again!
