Here's my little travel capsule for my three weeks away - first two weeks in Brittany and then one week at home in August. I'm wondering what you think about it and if you have any tips what to add or substract.

First of all, I have to say that I'm restricted by flying to Paris to start with. I'll have my bigger carry-on item and one small personal item. They are allowed to weigh 8kg and 2 kg respectively. I'm taking my Osprey Farpoint 40 for the big bag and the Haglöfs backpack below is going to be my personal item (it is that small). It would be nice if I could pack in a way that the small backpack fits into the bigger bag, though. I don't want to do the turtle thing in Paris.

I was thinking practical when I thought what to pack, so there's nothing fancy in there. Although the button down shirt is a bit more dressy than the rest. I'm most unsure about the pants and the shoes, I guess. This is a casual vacation and we really haven't any hiking tours or anything planned, but my hiking shoes are comfortable and waterproof and a much better option for rainy and cold weather than my suede sneakers, so I don't want to go without them. What I'm wondering about is whether I should take my hiking pants or not. They are more comfortable wet than jeans and quick drying of course, but do I need them if I have two pair of jeans? They definitely look like gear and I prefer to wear them only when I'm truly out and about. If I take them I would not only have two pairs of shoes in my bag but also two pair of long pants.

In any case, here's the list (now edited a few times):

  • Navy rain jacket
  • Two pairs of skinny jeans and hiking pants + one belt
  • One pair of shorts
  • Four T-shirts (pink, navy x2, striped green)
  • Short sleeved button down shirt
  • One wool pullover (green)
  • One wool BF cardigan (dark grey)
  • Icebreaker cami for layering
  • Icebreaker leggings for layering and as pajama bottoms/loungewear
  • Sleep tee
  • Sneaker socks (1x) and hiking socks (2x)
  • Other underwear
  • Patterned cotton scarf
  • Hiking shoes, sneakers and Birkenstock sandals
  • Bikini
  • Watch + a little jewelry
  • Vaude crossbody bag

What do you think? Would you add something? Especially the hiking pants (they were great to have in Scotland last year)? Leave something at home? I know that one big hole in the capsule is a thinner long sleeved pullover, but I plan to buy a breton shirt at the very start of vacation when we're coming through Quimper, where the Armor Lux factory is.

Any comments or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Okay I replaced one pair of jeans with the hiking pants. I think duplicating the jeans wasn't such a good idea. I certainly don't want to wear hiking pants in the week at home, but I could steal some jeans from my sister I guess, if all else fails.

I decided to leave the canvas tote at home, I don't think I will need it. And I think I found the best solution to the bag situation: I will take a small crossbody bag for my most important items on the flight and will leave the camera in my luggage. I'll also pack the empty backpack. That solution will make packing much easier.

Decided to leave the backpack at home completely, same as the canvas crossbody bag. I'm going to pack my Vaude crossbody bag instead, which is reasonable waterproof. I decided it would be better and more convenient to pack just one bag.

Switched out the grey tee for the green striped one. I've also decided to take two pairs of jeans after all. With the weather that's predicted I probably need to wear long pants all the time and I'm just more comfortable with two pairs. I did some test packing yesterday and even with one more pair I'm going to have a lot of room left in my bag.
