Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Too old for converse?

After reading Shiney's great explanation today about boyfriend blazers, I'm wondering if I should take the chance on converse...my 20 year old daughter wears them...I'm 52...is there a color that would be better than others?
This is me in my BF jacket....

You look fantastic and I think you can wear converse easily. I don't see you in a bright pink pair, and my guess you also couldn't see that. I think you have fabulous taste. In seeing the picture I think a charcoal pair would look good.

Thanks, San....won't my daughter be surprised when she comes home for Thanksgiving if I'm sporting a pair!...actually, I'm always looking for flat comfy shoes, so at least I know they will be in style...I've always been so conservative, afraid of making a fashion faux pau (sp)It is so wonderful to have a fashion support group!

I'm sure Angie posted a while back about seeing a very elegant lady in her seventies travelling in her cons. Definitely age appropriate. I also think the grey pair would look fabulous on you!

Not even close to too old!

As long as you don't pair the Converse with skinnies or clams, you'll look perfectly age appropriate!

Thanks everyone for your input, "Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to DSW I go!

I think there is very little out there that you would appear too old for. You're gorgeous... rock those converse proud when you get them! :)

Where have you guys been all my life?!

I'm 63 and wear charcoal and black Converse. I also have a perforated white pair, but it doesn't get as much wear. I'd like a light grey pair. My sons can hardly believe their mom in Converse. I like them big enough to pop in some Dr. Scholl's insoles for more comfort.

Thanks, Julie amd Marianna! Yup. I see older women in Europe wear black and white all the time. Especially in Spain. As long as you stick to a classic Converse look, it’s going to work. I shall be wearing Converse till I’m 100.

There is something to be said for a style of shoe that hasn’t changed in over 50 years and still looks KILLER. I like to support brands and looks like that.

with straight legs?

or bootcut (my darker wash is in the laundry, too busy with YLF to do it)

What do you think of the BF jacket I scored at Ross for $29.99 it's Tahari, it's a little
to small, so I'm going to see if I can find a larger size

It's funny I feel a little nervous leaving the house in these, but I'm determined to make it work for me, it solves my dilemma in finding a pair of comfy run around shoes (besides boots)..here goes....

Love the jacket and the Converse! Your outfits look great and age-appropriate. I just recently jumped on the Converse bandwagon and have slowly become a Converse convert :)

I prefer them with the bootcuts. Love the BF jacket the fabric on the cuffs looks yummy x

Wonderful! Love the outfit with bootcuts best too.

I don't think there's an age when you shouldn't wear converse or anything that might look like a teenager garment/accessory. I guess it all depends on the way you create you outfit, and you look very good in this outfit, I actually think converse looks better with the bf blazer than with other shoes.

I personnally prefer the straight legs but that's only because I love this kind of trousers. Both look pretty good on you. And I wouldn't say uou are too old to wear these outfit at all !

I love those converse shoes with the boyfriend blazer you have. Great choice.

yay! thanks for the quick pics! you look fabulous. Don't be self-conscious at all, go out looking and feeling proud, knowing you look marvelous!

I love your Cons! They look fab with the bootcuts. I personally love Converse in their multiplicity of colours and intend on buying red sequin low-top Converse with my new paycheck.

Carole, I understand how you wonder if you should leave the house when first experimenting with something new. For me it was leggings. You look just great and appropriate in your Cons and blazer. As your eye adjusts and others like your new style, it gets easier most of the time. The only look that hasn't gone over well with friends my age is skinny jeans. I need to post pictures on the forum to see if there's anything wrong with what I'm doing.
