Just observing that the above outfit was posted on the afternoon of 7/23 by the woman who told us on 7/22 that she couldn't look sophisticated. Ahem.

Care to retract that statement?

Aw, thanks April, but that to me isn't a sophisticated look! However I will take the compliment and happily bask in it...

I was feeling negative last night. I went back and looked at some pics and yeah sometimes I can pull off sophisticated. At least for a few minutes before humidity makes my hair frizz and my clothes get rumpled and I forget to stand straight and I catch my hem in my heel and rip it.

Also to be honest, I don't think I would *want* to pull of sophisticated all the time, day after day. It's too much work to be constantly impeccable. LOL. It's great for special occasions though.

Shiny and Laura, you both look fantastic and I love how your vests/stylings are completely different.

Funny enough, I tried this last weekend for the first time, and it's VERY similar to Shiny's with a cowl neck and bronze flats.

Gorgeous, shiny! I love how the wonderful drape of the tank contrasts with the structure of the vest.

Laura -- I really admire those looks with the moto vest. Definitely a different feel than the structured suiting waistcoat.

Kari -- how funny that you are channeling Shiny in the first one! I also like the drape of the tank in your outfit. The woven works well too -- love that color on you.

I've always been attracted to the waistcoat+sleeveless look that Angie blogged about, but I haven't been able to find a waistcoat that fit me well (darn the wide rib cage). But, being into the voluminous look, I picked up a voluminous vest at Anthro today (while returning something else, bad!):

I do not own a vest/waistcoat - I would love to see what the back of the vest looks like. I am not entirely sure what to be looking for when I am shopping.

Shiny, would you post a photo of the back of your vest?
You don't need to be wearing it; just so I know what to look for.

I wore vest over simple cami before the blog post, and wasn't sure if it was a faux pas. Like this:

Both vest and cami are navy, vest has white pinstripe that never comes through in the pics. Is it OK or does it have to be a nicer top?

Marianne, It looks fine to me. I've worn a basic lacy cami underneath a black vest before and thought it looked okay. Hope that helps!

Marianne, I have been wondering if a simple cami might work too. It looks like it does!

Elbyde - what a great idea, to add a scarf!

Susand - I'll post when I get a chance to take a photo. The back is pretty simple - it's just black satin material. My black vest (you can see in that album if you click through) has a white satin back, with a black pinstripe. That makes it a little more challenging for coordinating outfits, but I also have it in my head it makes it okay for summer. I would love to get one of those vests that are essentially backless - kind of like a halter style? I don't know if it would be flattering on me, but I'm intrigued by the idea. Might be a good look to tone down my shoulders. Or it could look awful...

Shiny, I love it that you paired the waistcoat with a cowl-neck top, it looks fantastic. And I have a hunch you'd look fab in a halter-neck waistcoat.

I tried the look with a few tops in my closet yesterday, but nothing seemed to really work (I did discover that I need quite 'wide' arm straps, that peek out a little from under the waistcoat 'straps'). Or perhaps this look just isn't for me...
